Terrain Library Plugin - Save and Stamp Terrain

Install Plugin

Hello everyone, ever felt tired creating good mountains, hills and general Terrain-Maps manually? This plugin solves it: It lets you save and place TerrainRegions with a stamp-tool while providing an updating Library!

How it works

While there is going to be a powerful Library, this is how you save your own Terrain-Regions and place them:

  1. First of all, we activate the plugin. This loads the default Library:
    InitializeButton

  2. Create a part covering your Terrain that you want to save in your Library:

  3. Click “Export Terrain” while having your part selected. It will create a TerrainRegion in your selected part.

  4. Optional: Select the TerrainRegion, then go to Properties and give it tags and an Image-Id(created via an ImageLabel):
    TerrainRegion

  5. Rename your TerrainRegion and move it into the Library-Folder:
    TerrainLibraryFolder

  6. Click “Refresh Library” and search or scroll for your TerrainRegion:

  7. Select your TerrainRegion and click “Enable Stamp” while adjusting the settings(such as offset, locks, etc.):

  8. Place your TerrainRegion:

Features:

  • Paste-Terrain-Panel:
    • Export Terrain: Exports terrain within the selected part.
    • Set Start Position: Sets the start-position for the import-terrain-button of the selected part(select part → set start position. The importer will now start from this position).
    • Set End Position: Sets the end-position for the import-terrain-button of the selected part(select part → set end position. The importer will now end here).
    • Import Terrain: Imports the selected TerrainRegion (in the Library) from the Start-Position to the End-Position. The Importer also covers Auto-Smooth and Y-Copies.
  • Delete-Terrain-Panel:
    • Delete Within Part: Deletes the Terrain within the selected Part.
  • Stamp-Tool:
    • Stamp-Distance: Sets the minimum required distance (in studs) between the previous stamp and your cursor before a new stamp can be placed.
    • Stamp-Distance = X/Y/Z: This sets the Stamp-Distance to the TerrainRegions Size in Cells.
    • Auto-Smooth: This setting is used to create linear duplicates of the selected TerrainRegion from the last stamped TerrainRegion and the current allowed(through Stamp-Distance) Stamp-Position.
    • Offset-Steps: Controlls the offset-steps in studs of the stamp-part. Read more about keybindings below.
    • Grid: Enables a grid in studs.
    • Lock X/Y/Z: Locks the Stamp on the selected Lock-Axis when the mouse is held down(stamp is active).
    • Y-Copies: Used to duplicate the selected TerrainRegion on the Y-Axis.
    • Y-Copies-Steps: Sets the steps of the Y-Copies in studs(e.g 5 Y-Copies with the Y-Copies-Steps of 5: Every copy will now be 5 studs away from each other).
  • Library:
    • Search: Write tags to search for TerrainRegions. Note: all tags must be lowercase and multiple-tag-search must follow this simple format(example): tag1,tag2,tag3
    • Refresh-Library: Refreshes the library by reloading every TerrainRegion in the Library-Folder.
    • Delete-Selected: Deletes the selected TerrainRegions in the Library. Does not change the UI.

Keybinds (for stamp-tool):
Left covers the input and right the offset of the stamp-part(steps are controlled by the Offset-Steps):
Keybinds (Stamp Tool):

  • H / J = +X / -X Offset
  • T / G = +Y / -Y Offset
  • B / N = +Z / -Z Offset
  • R = Full Reset (Offset Reset)
  • K = (Un)Freeze Stamp

Pivot of the TerrainRegion

When placing your part(to export the terrain), the “pivot” of the TerrainRegion will be the center of the part and not the pivot/origin of the part. This means: To ensure your TerrainRegion is being placed correctly(your desired relative position to the stamp-part) when using the stamp-part, place the part’s(when exporting) center to whereever you want the TerrainRegion to be stamped from. You may need to re-scale the part. Example:

Tags for TerrainRegions

In Step 4 I mentioned adding tags to the TerrainRegion. Tags must be lowercase and follow this specific pattern (example): [“tag1”,“tag2”,“tag3”]

Using your Library across places

To use your Library across all places, simply copy the Library of one game (it must be named “SeemTerrainLibrary”) to another in ReplicatedStorage and then re-Open the place.

What do you think of the Plugin? Please note that TerrainRegions for the default Library will be uploaded mostly in the next few updates(check your updates or enable auto-update). Any suggestions?

Thanks for reading, I hope this plugin helps you too!
