The amount of copies had come to a point where they flood the top pick’s of the catalog and bury genuine creator’s works from ever going anywhere. better moderation, a better report system for these type of asset’s and if the primary system run on a robot then a better robot..
Unfortunately they take their sweet time taking items like these down when its a complete rip off of the original item. They should really have their AI flag these and or won’t allow an upload with a strike for the public UGC to get kicked off completely as this shouldn’t be knockoffs at all. But they use their AI in other areas where we also need it.
My report was closed without adequate resolution, so this is not a duplicate. Further replies to the original report will not be addressed.
Quoting the engineer:
This is clearly not happening, as per this report. Identical copies continue to be uploaded in masses day by day. This new bug report is entirely valid.
Engineers comment was in response to a majority of the faces you reported, you labelled them as copies even though they weren’t direct copies or were completely unreleased.
Sure, the similar faces reported here will not be actioned and their lack of moderation may not be a bug, but the issue of IDENTICAL copies not being moderated still stands, and the engineer in the original thread claimed this should be happening as per their current systems. Hence these systems are not working as intended, making it a bug. Final reply here from me.
Just because you profit immensely from the lack of moderation here doesn’t mean you go around refuting completely valid bug reports.
While I can agree with the basis of this report, reports like these are constantly drained of any validation when they attempt to report faces that use any distinct features that are shared with limited faces.
We saw this in the last report when any face using the Epic Face mouth was unhesitatingly deleted, even when it wasn’t a direct copy of the Epic Face - which makes me worried about the future of the catalog if anything is taken down for sharing features similar to other Roblox items.
If you want to be transparent, share the links of what you consider a “direct copy”, your screenshots make it seem like you’re attempting to takedown as many “limited copies” as you can even when they aren’t sharing an exact resemblance.
A handful of the faces you left unmarked were neither a direct copy, I’m not sure what you’re getting at. A direct copy means the item shares an exact resemblance to the original, no recreation or modification done.
Yes, The AI should automatically takedown any face that is directly copied from Roblox, but when it’s recreated, of course it’s not going to be picked up, that’s a new and different creation.
From what I saw this report was already addressed by an administrator.
He mentioned that Roblox makes its own decisions on how to enforce their IP, and Roblox has chosen that it will only take down exact copies, and by exact copies, they have to be the exact same bit by bit. Similar ones won’t be taken down.
This absolutely isn’t the case considering the mountains of valk hats, domino crowns, korblox type stuff getting taken down despite a good portion of them being their own thing, some of which are only loosely based on the general shape/vibe.
Not to mention, if they truly do only take down exact copies, there’d be no reason for people to mass upload these “totally not exact copies” on various throwaway/burner accounts if they’re absolutely not the exact copies they clearly are.
i see those as their own things and do not care for them, the main focus of this are the bad actor’s who mass upload the copies and flood the catalog with the same thing
This engineer has nothing to do in specific with accessories, this was a guideline for Dynamic Head face designs, and how they’ll protect their IP regarding them.
Please, don’t advocate for the side of Roblox nuking any amount of creativity on the platform no matter how estranged they are to limited items, it doesn’t benefit anyone.
The last report WAS an example of why these types of reports were being created with misguided deletions in mind. Faces that had used meme imagery (ex. the Epic Face mouth) were being deleted while having no intention of copying the original Roblox Epic Face, most of which giving their own take on the meme.
Everyone here in this thread agrees with taking down exact copies, but false flagging original items/recreations doesn’t benefit anyone.
I understand the intentions behind this report, but the problem is that a large amount of the faces being cited here simply aren’t 1:1 duplicates. Many of them are custom creations with their own style, even if they borrow elements or are inspired by older Roblox faces. Treating those the same as exact, bit-for-bit copies doesn’t make sense and only ends up punishing creativity rather than protecting anything.
It’s also worth noting that a lot of Roblox’s faces aren’t made directly by Roblox, a large amount of toycode faces had been created by the artist themselves as a reward for whoever unboxed their character, and some iconic ones like Epic Face originated as free-use memes. To try and take down UGC faces that follow in the same spirit of remixing and reinterpreting is inconsistent.
If Roblox themselves benefitted from custom-made and meme-inspired faces in the past, UGC creators should be allowed to explore that same creative space today.
