I’ve been on Roblox since 2009 and have borne witness to the degradation of its moderation system. Over the past decade, it has crumbled into something so pathetically ineffective that it genuinely amazes me how it’s gone unchecked and unmodified for this long. We haven’t even received any meaningful communication from Roblox staff regarding changes to the systems that are supposed to keep the platform safe from malicious content.
Now that that’s out of the way, let me get to the main point of this post.
I’ve been developing my own spin on PLS DONATE for the past year and a half and have not received a single moderation strike. Now that I’m in the late stages of development—only needing to finalize features like environmental effects—I decided to migrate development to a new account for a fresh start.
Before even uploading the place to the new account, I took the following steps to ensure account integrity:
- ID verified
- Enabled two-factor authentication
- Added and verified a phone number
- Added and verified an email address
After completing these steps, I waited a month to let the account age. I then continued development as usual and finally uploaded the place to the new account. Less than ten minutes later, I received a warning: the place had been taken down and deleted due to alleged “sexual content.”
I can assure you that there is absolutely no sexual or even remotely suggestive content in the game. To make matters worse, the moderation note failed to specify what triggered the takedown.
It absolutely astonishes me that Roblox’s moderation system can flag content as “sexual” without providing any supporting details. It’s hard for me to recommend Roblox as a free resource for game development if you can’t even publish a game without facing baseless and obscene accusations from the moderation team.
I reached out to Roblox Support and was met with nothing but frustration—automated emails stating “Yeah, we’ve received your request, but you’re still in our queue.” After 34 days, I finally received a reply. Here’s the image attached below:
“After reviewing all evidence…” What evidence? This is now the second time I’ve been told my game was flagged for sexual content—without being provided a single detail explaining why. If such content supposedly exists, then why has the game remained online and untouched on both my main and alternate accounts—accumulating nearly 38,000 visits during its testing phase—without a single warning or moderation action?
The level of tone-deafness is staggering. The naivety and negligence on display here are baffling. I cannot, in good faith, recommend this platform to anyone interested in free, beginner-friendly game development until these issues are acknowledged and resolved.
It feels like another slap in the face when I can log in and see provocative avatars roaming games completely unchecked. It’s disgusting.
Do better, Roblox. You’re a multi-billion dollar corporation. Start acting like one.
