In March, I reported that The Pharaohs Guard Sword had a typo in its name, specifically the missing apostrophe in “Pharaohs.” However, it was changed to The Pharaoh Guard’s Sword, moving the possessive to an entirely different word.
The new title sounds like the sword of one specific guard whose title is “Pharaoh Guard” and doesn’t make as much sense.
The current description, which remains unchanged from what it was prior to the update made to the item’s title earlier this year, still reads “Pharaoh’s Guard.” It seems pretty clear that the original, intended name for this item was “The Pharaoh’s Guard Sword”
I don’t follow. The item’s current name, “The Pharaoh Guard’s Sword”, in English suggests the sword belongs to the guard. The description reads that “you’ll unlock the ancient power of the Pharaoh’s Guard”. This makes sense given that the sword belongs to the guard.
The request being made here is arbitrary and not even a bug.
If we consider the title of this item over the past 10 years, the sword had belonged to “The Pharaohs Guard” (sic). This “guard” is most likely the medjay, a royal guard that served from Egypt’s Old Kingdom until the Ptolemaic Dynasty. For context, “guard” can refer to a body of soldiers protecting a person, not necessarily an individual person.
The new name is incredibly confusing. At first, I thought it was implying that the group of soldiers all shared one sword. It could also be interpreted as a sword used by a single person with the title “The Pharaoh Guard.” As you can see, both of these carry a different meaning than the original title. The best title would be “The Pharaoh’s Guard Sword,” as was intended in 2015, to mean a sword that was used by the Pharaoh’s Guard – his body of soldiers, that is.
I don’t see this report as being arbitrary because my original report about this item merely pointed out the typo, but Roblox went and changed an unrelated part of the title. If this truly isn’t a bug, I hope this isn’t the start of a pattern of Roblox arbitrarily changing titles when responding to bug reports.
