Trying to make optimization and beautiful graphics in a procedural planet

I’ve been spending a lot of time reworking the game’s visuals from the ground up.

The goal has been mainly to not just to throw in a bunch of effects, it was to make the world feel more immersive while keeping performance as smooth as possible.

Lighting, atmosphere, particles, and environmental effects have all been reworked to give each planet more depth and make exploration feel less flat. I also integrated Ro-Volumetrics for volumetric fog and lighting,

This adds a lot more atmosphere to the ship, caves, storms, and darker environments without hurting performance as much as trying to make my own lol.

Atmospheric effects are so pretty now with the weather and volumetric systems too, especially the other planets in the sky.

To support all of this, I also improved the chunk loading and seed saving as I had a lot of issues with generation. Instead of trying to render the entire map at once, the game intelligently streams chunks in 512 stud chunks in and out around the player. That keeps memory usage lower, reduces unnecessary rendering, and lets the game push higher quality environments while maintaining stable FPS.

the screenshot above is after like a 20 minute session in game of fighting and walking around and then returning back to base so I’m still maintaining solid performance although memory is kinda high.

Performance increased like some crazy amount from the LOD system I added which also improves lighting performance and animation performance slop, were talking like a 40% or so increase in performance.

it’s actually insane how much few effects change your entire environment because like look at that in game screenshot.

A lot of the work on the graphics overhaul has actually been behind the scenes like optimizing assets, reducing unnecessary rendering, and making sure all of the new visual systems work together efficiently. The result is a world that looks significantly better while still running well across a [hopefully] wide range of systems like mobile and console.

Thank y’all and PLEASE do give feedback on this.

dude. this is awesome. some of the lighting reminds me of the visuals for Eksil Steenberg’s game Love:

other than that i have no notes. i will note that having sun glare that is too strong may impede gameplay visibility.

very beautiful. brings a tear to my eye…

yeah I mainly tuned up a lot of effects for gameplay look lol ill def add settings in game for glare

I totally see the resemblance hopefully i won’t drive away people from the game with those screen effects :sob:

I swear it mostly just looks nice and the glare is only noticeable when u look In that direction of the object

you wont need to worry about driving people away. if YOU like it, then people that share your taste will appreciate it. i think i am one of those people! i really appreciate this! keep up the good work!

if your really interested in play testing, I have a group and I lowkey need testers lol Imagineering - Roblox

hey, so this is insanely good, i am 100% amazed at this, no bad feedback to be found

Good j*b on this

But this is the incorrect category, i suggest putting this into Help and Feedback > Creations Feedback because it fits this more.

I would like to play this once it’s released/beta because it really looks so good

I appreciate it very much!!! I will switch the category that is my bad lol

I think you will be way more excited to play once I release it since I’ve intentionally kinda been avoiding showing all of the systems for release but its really satisfying in my opinion.

making game actually interesting and not confusing so now theres a tutorial objective system that kinda directs you but not like super invasive also better ui but still kinda fodder cause im rushing to get this into a releasable state lol

expanded caving :eyes:

bug fixing might make me go insane but redid cinematic and cool lore drop in game if anyone cares still ig
