At the end of last month I uploaded an accessory and noticed that the thumbnail differed from what was shown when paying the 750 robux upload fee. Tonight I uploaded another accessory and noticed yet again that the thumbnail was incorrect.
Even so, plugins are irrelevant to this bug as well. The accessory’s thumbnail configuration is done correctly and works with models like normal (as shown in the original post with the Expected photos). It’s only when the accessory is uploaded to the marketplace where the thumbnail is not working properly.
I think Roblox is trying to zoom in your thumbnail to give you a “better appearance” instead of purposefully trying to sabotage your desired look. If you’d like to change this I suggest using a customized UGC thumbnail tool, it’ll be easier to change the icon to what you want.
The view of the UGC thumbnail would be from the creator of said item, unless it was made officially by the Roblox account then yes there could be a fix on it. However, this is made by a third party user, on their next upload they should make sure that their doing it right for the thumbnail they would want.
I don’t think you realize what this bug report is all about. The “Expected” thumbnail is what the creator of said UGC item had setup. The thumbnail works perfectly fine uploaded as a model. It differs when it’s uploaded as an accessory.
These are my accessories. I have uploaded multiple of them prior to this and have had no issues with thumbnails differing from what was expected.
Evidently something is wrong with the way UGC thumbnails are handled nowadays compared to a few months ago.
Are you using a plugin that’s making it appear differently, or is it actually Roblox doing that itself. Making thumbnails can be tricky as some older UGC creators had created thumbnails with the item being backwards.
This possibly be the fault of you setting it up wrong, or you’re speaking that the appearance is completely different on the website.
If the website then that’s another story, but also you’d have to assume that they did it to help view the item better on the catalog.
Also the thumbnail of the item the way they stand now isn’t even that bad, so not sure why there’s much to complain about.
Could you describe what the difference is between current and expected? For example, is it lighting or position of the asset? I am not seeing much difference between the two versions. Thanks
The position of the camera is not in the correct location. As a result, the camera is closer to the object than what I manually chose when deciding the thumbnail.
This is expected behavior. Upload and marketplace thumbnails are generated differently, so small visual differences can occur. The accessory itself isn’t affected and will display correctly in-experience.
