UI Flickering - Unable to fix.

For one reason or another (I for the life of me cannot figure it out), the UI on low-end devices for rich-text labels flickers nonstop and is making the game almost unplayable for mobile users. Below is a video.

Expected behavior

UI should be static, non-flickering. This does not happen in studio or when I play the game on PC. This does happen on even high-end mobile devices.

Disable UI that you cannot see, it is caused by having many UIComponents (such as UIStroke, Gradients, etc). Too much stuff to draw at once, and I believe it reaches a frame budget. Simply disable unused UI, or disable the strokes if the item itself is not visible.

Thanks for the report! This is a tricky issue on our end that’s been unsolved for a while. In the mean time, there are some workarounds you can try.

The way that the engine renders text is by packing all of the glyphs together into a single large texture, and if too many glyphs are inserted, then inserting will start to fail, causing this flickering.

The main principle for preventing this is to avoid having a large number of unique glyphs. Glyphs are unique based on their letter, size, font, and any modifiers applied (like UIStroke thickness, bold). BillboardGuis that have TextScaled=true text are especially bad with this. If you use these, it’s a good idea to set a low MaxDistance on them, so that fewer will be rendered at once.
