I don’t even know where to begin with this bug report…
On May 6th me and a friend were trying to add eachother on Roblox after randomly being unadded from eachother, but for some reason were unable to.
It seems that the website thinks that they have me blocked, but they also aren’t able to unblock me.
Whenever they try to unblock me they get a message that says “This user isn’t blocked–you’re all set!”
This issue isn’t just limited to the website, as it also happens on the app. We’ve even gone as far as to use the QR code feature (which I didn’t even know was a thing…), but still no luck.
After about 20 days we tried to add eachother again today (May 26) expecting the issue to be fixed somehow, but ran into the same issue.
This time we tried looking at the Network panel in Chrome’s DevTools to see if we could see what was going wrong. Interestingly whenever they tried to unblock me they would get a response code of 400, and the response payload would just be “4”.
Now I don’t know that much about HTTP, but I’m pretty sure the response shouldn’t be “4”… This also is what makes me think that this may be some sort of internal server issue, as this issue seems to happen everywhere and we aren’t able to do anything about it.
If someone out there knows how to magically fix this, please let me know!!!
and also before anyone asks if parental controls were enabled, no, both of our accounts are 13+.
Hopefully Roblox takes notice of this, it seems to be affecting more users over the days. This could possibly be related with GetFriendsOnline API. Furthermore invisible mode was mentioned to be rolling out in some time.
In the time since I’ve made this post I’ve had this bug pop up for a few different users aswell, but this time I can’t unblock them instead of them being unable to block me.
While experimenting I found out that sending a friend request to a user and then blocking them sometimes causes this bug to occur, but I still haven’t figured out a reliable way of triggering it.
I still don’t really know what could be causing this to happen and really wish it was fixed, it makes playing with my friends really annoying…
Thanks for the report! We’re aware of an issue with the error messaging in the case where a user is blocked on another linked platform (like Xbox and PSN). That appears to be the case here - ask your friend to try unblocking you on any linked platform they have.
We’re working on improving the error messaging so it’s much more obvious when this case occurs
My issue is that we aren’t blocked on anything. Neither of us are blocking each other and never have. Whenever I send a request, it just doesn’t go through.
What I’m getting from what you said is that blocking users on other platforms transfers to Roblox, which is an interesting idea, but I feel like this information should be displayed more clearly to the user. I didn’t even know you could link your Roblox account to other platforms because it’s never shown anywhere.
My friend doesn’t seem to have me blocked on any other platforms, so I don’t know where this problem is coming from. This issue also seems to happen to users I’ve never even interacted with on other platforms, which makes me think it may be related to something else potentially?
Yep that’s right, and we’re working on improving on-platform education around this and other social features. You can view linked platforms here. I’m checking with the downstream team that owns console block linking for this specific case - as this is a safety use case would you mind getting your friend to post here as well?
Oh I see, thanks for letting me know! I’ll have my friend post in a few minutes, they still have to go through the greetings thing… (they don’t use the DevForum that often.)
This did in fact seem to be the problem after all in this case. My friend unlinked their Roblox account from Xbox and they were finally able to send me a friend request. I’m still kind of confused as to why it thought they had me blocked when they didn’t have me blocked on Xbox…
Anyways thanks for your help! I didn’t even know that setting existed as I always scrolled past it without thinking much about it, and it’s not often I go through my security settings anyway.
Ah great, glad we got it worked out! Unfortunately we don’t have much visibility into the Xbox side - we just know we got a blocked response from them. Apparently logging in to the Roblox Xbox app can cause a resync, so hopefully this doesn’t come back once your friend logs back in but let us know if it does and we can dig further!
I see an old, unanswered friend request you sent to that user back in October that should appear in their friend requests - are they unable to accept it?
I can’t unblock players either, especially ones that I’ve blocked a long time ago. When I go to the page to view and unblock users, it shows none, despite the fact that I very much do have many users blocked.
It’d be pretty nested in there - on roughly the third page. They should also be able to accept from your profile page. If you have them post here I can accept on their behalf, but from what I can see the friend request should be there.
