Underwater Ocean Showcase

I’ve been working on an underwater ocean environment for the past week and wanted to share my progress with you. I’m aiming for a lively, immersive underwater scene, and I’d love any suggestions on how to make it feel even more alive!

Current Features:

  • Water caustics at the bottom of the sea
  • Moving kelp
  • Realistic fish groups and movement
  • Realistic shark movement
  • Realistic water surface
  • Underwater light rays

I LOVE IT!

I love the terrain, as it fits the underwater ocean, and what I love most is … First of all, I LOVE the tint of the underwater screen effect, it’s perfect! And second of all… My display name is Ocean.. Such a co-incidence!

I suggest you continue with this work, I’m excited to see how it will turn out in the future!

Thank you very much! Do you have any suggestions what could make it feel more alive and beautiful?

Very nice!

I think some ambience would go well. All I hear are splashes from the attached video.

It would be interesting if you could implement a system where fish quickly swim away when you approach them (for realism).

Looks cool! I think there’s too much empty space that can be filled out, for example: Subnautica has large kelp forest things for example, and adds a lot more height variation with arches, caves, and whatnot. That might help hide a bit of the emptiness. Effects and visuals could of course also help with the liveliness. Also, the light beams I do like them being used, but them facing at random directions kinda looks odd to me, i don’t know about that though

It looks wonderful! Yet I would recommend to add variation to the terrain, it looks a little plain (at least in the video)

Maybe add more depth to it, caves, rocks, mountains and holes!

Something like this:

Thank you very much for that idea, I will definitely put that into the game!

This looks very promising. I would look forward to seeing it evolve in the future.
I would recommend that you further improve the graphics, such as better lighting, but I actually prefer that you implement something called Caustics to the scene. If you add Caustics, it can really elevate the ambience of the showcase and further add depth to it.

You can see the impact this has on the ambience of the game. I’ll post a link showcasing this.

But this looks WONDERFUL already, so keep up the great work!

The ground seems to be grass, so you can improve the texture so that it seems more to be sand.
This is really nice work!

It actually is a custom sand texture but I will try to make it more visible. Thanks for letting me know!
