Unsure About Spotlight Objects in a Void – Would Love Feedback!

Hello fellow developers, please note that this is my first ever post so forgive my noobness.

But basically, I’m working on a story-driven game called “Through Blind Eyes,”
where the player experiences the life of an old mafia boss who went blind after a tragic incident and is on the verge of death. The game revolves around him reliving key moments from his past filled with regret.

Visual Style Idea: I was thinking of taking a minimalistic approach to the environment:

  • Most of the world would be a dark void, representing the protagonist’s blindness.
  • The only things the player can really see are spotlighted objects (like memories, important items, etc.) that stand out in this void.
  • These objects would serve as emotional triggers and gameplay elements as the player interacts with them, reliving the character’s story piece by piece.

However, I’m unsure if this style would work for the kind of emotional impact I’m trying to achieve.

Looking for Feedback:

  • Do you think this minimalistic void with spotlight objects would be engaging enough for players?
  • Would it work well for a narrative-driven game, or could it feel too empty and repetitive?
  • Any suggestions for enhancing this concept, or alternative ideas to better convey the protagonist’s blindness and regret?

Here’s some examples of what I mean/kinda have for now I guess.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or ideas! I want to make sure this approach resonates with players emotionally while keeping the game immersive.
