Hey! I’ve been working on a procedural game board generation system for a game inspired by Ticket to Ride. Instead of having a couple premade maps, this will allow players to play on a unique map each time. This is the second post I’ve made for this but I’ve made a few bug fixes and made it public for testing. (see update in comments)
it seemed to do what it was supposed to do nicely, but then it broke. To get it to break, i generated a medium map, then clicked regen and chose huge map. “It normally doesn’t take this long.” message appeared. Then this:
Hm that’s weird I just tested it a bunch and didn’t have that happen… the huge map does take longer than the others atm which I want to fix, but it definitely shouldn’t be taking that long. Thank you for this
And I forgot those beds were still there I meant to move them away since they’re for a different game LOL
Update: I’ve made some changes to the generator that has seriously improved generation speed and reliability.
The “Huge” map that was having the most issues before now successfully generates in 1-3 seconds (most tests I’ve done have been completed in <2. My smaller map sizes have been generating very fast, typically under a second.
The generator can now work on multiple route calculations at the same time instead of one by one. Additionally, it will now skip route calculations that are taking too long so it doesn’t take up so much time.
I’ve also made the map size MUCH smaller since I changed my mind about having it be a huge map players walk on, it will now be a small game board on a table
