[URGENT] Stats from 70th-90th Percentile now down below the 50th average

So let me explain, I own the project Ghost Samurai Fighting. It released on October 4th where after 3-4 days it began getting organic traffic. It ended up peaking at 3k players with very good stats(See image below)

After releasing the trading update there was apparently a bug that was kicking every new player. Simple data loading issue, but due to outages and issues with roblox stats we ended up catching it very late (4-5 days after). This tanked our QPTR and the next day our impressions dropped significantly. While impressions dropped, retention also was dropping and since then has never been able to recover. Btw stats apart from QPTR were still super high during the bug period as well. It was only QPTR that tanked.

Here are how stats are looking now:

Even our sponsor ad stats were doing well at the time:

Doing sponsors now doesn’t bring these same stats too. I assume maybe since the release hype is gone.

But I am stuck, we have tried reverting before the trade update and there was no change. We then moved the game to a new experience ID for a fresh algorithm evaluation, and the results weren’t great. We ended up cutting the move short because the original game QPTR was rising back to normal and getting about 20k impressions an hour. But then after a day it went back to dropping.

So I am out of ideas, there maybe could have been a chance for the new experience ID to work but we did cut it short. Does anyone know why this is happening? The game went from extremely good stats to terrible stats and I have confirmed it wasn’t the game causing it after the kicking issue was fixed. Judging by the fact that QPTR was rising but then lowered again makes me think it is algorithm related.

I still really need help with this, is there anyone who knows analytics well enough? What should I do?

I know I’m late, but something similar happened to me. Not as good as your game, but peak CCU was like 800 one time, but I got hacked, and the hackers broke the game. The stats dropped down hugely, it recovered a bit but it wasn’t the same as it was (back then it averaged like 200 CCU but after hackers broke the game, it dropped to 10 CCU on average). The only suggestion is just run sponsored ads for like 2-3 weeks (focus more on consistency, not necessarily spending a crap ton of Robux unless you have the capital you can afford to). There’s a good chance it may recover it, but there’s no guarantee. If that doesn’t work, my only suggestion is making a similar game to start fresh new.

Also… good stats aren’t indicative of your game’s performance… I’ve seen many games with amazing 90th stats but trash CCU count, while many games with mediocre stats with high CCUs. The algorithm is unpredictable, unfortunately.

I’m really sorry for what has happened to you, but this is how Roblox algorithm works unfortunately. It pushes games out fast.

Thanks for the reply, yeah although im not sure why moving the game didn’t work. Normally that would be a clean slate for the algorithm and yet our sponsor retention lowered way more compared to when we released. It’s just pretty strange, but for now I have moved on. My recent released project is putting out some pretty good stats and getting a decently big push so lets hope the same doesn’t happen.

That’s expected. Every game on Roblox just doesn’t have equal opportunity and is very unpredictable. You’d have to push out the game maybe like 10 different times to actually really test it well again. It’s really weird. This is why there is one “clone” game doing 50 CCU, and another almost-identical “clone” game doing 1K CCU.

When I mean it, you can hit that same player count again. You just have to next time thoroughly test your game and ensure nothing important breaks (the importance of QA testing). I’m not the one to give random unsolicited advice, but you can wish to do what you please.

Also, try changing up the thumbnails and icons again. Getting that high QPTR can actually jump up your CCUs back. Not a 100% guarantee but it’s better to try. (I’ve heard from many developers that it jumped up their CCU when they changed icons/thumbnails. It’s not a 100% success though, so it’s best to just have multiple and see which one does the best.)

im super later but after a month roblox makes ur stats based on “similar experiences” which is like 2-3 times more the original stats

Im aware of that, but even then our stats were much better last time. I still don’t know why the game fell off the way it did.

this is normal, games will naturally get worse stats over time as players get bored

No it is not normal, stats do decrease as the audience becomes more broad but not like this. Our stats instantly tanked and stayed there even after applying the bug fix.

idk what to tell you, yes this is fairly normal I’ve seen this happen to countless games and to a lot of my friend’s games as players simply get bored of said game / find it repetitive, etc. I’m not saying your stats decayed because of a broader audiance (that is part of it), I’m saying they decayed as players are starting to get bored of it. It happens to all my games and all my friends games (45 minutes average playtime became 20 minute, 20% day 1 retention became 10%, etc).

Game gets released → algorithm correctly finds players who like your game → your stats go up as relevant audience members find your game → game doesn’t have enough broad appeal, so the size of that audience is limited → the algorithm eventually runs out of highly interested new players to recommend it to → growth slows → existing players naturally churn over time as they get bored → retention and engagement gradually decline even if the game itself hasn’t changed.

If you don’t want to listen to other people’s advice what’s the point in asking. This is also why you see some devs release so many slop cash-grab games every week (because they understand this natural game cycle pattern). I even know someone who managed to scam 5 figures (USD) from dumb investors that didn’t understand this concept. He made a low quality brainrot game and on release it had 90th percentile stats for everything, he knew it would die out quickly so he tricked dumb investors into investing in it, the game died out in less than 1 month and the metrics aren’t even 50th percentile anymore. Yes this is fairly normal. Your game isn’t a low quality brainrot game but it’s still quite a nieche difficult combat game with not a lot of broad appeal.
