I can’t find any recent devforum posts for uploading images or user videos of for example US Presidential footage (non-copyrighted, public use), or portraits of historical figures (ie. president Clinton, George H. Bush, Cold War era world leaders etc). The only posts are from 1+ year ago but the community standards were updated after those posts.
The TOS/Code of Conduct are a bit vague on uploading “personal information” ie. someone’s face, and political content ie. a previous president:
We value friendly debate about social and political issues and topics that matter to the Roblox community. To maintain Roblox’s civil environment, we prohibit the discussion or depiction of content pertaining to political figures and entities, including:
Political figures in their official capacity, including:
- Current or recent real-world government officials
- Candidates who are currently running for or recently ran for public office and their slogans, campaign material, rallies, or events
Political entities, including:
- Political parties, including official party-affiliated organizations
- Specific races for elected office
- Desecration of political symbols, such as flag burning
And:
Sharing Personal Information
To maintain privacy and safety, users may be prohibited from sharing or requesting personal information on Roblox depending on their age, including:
- Email address
- Passwords or access tokens
- Home address or physical location
- Financial information including credit cards and bank account details
- Medical information
- Telephone number
- Internet Identifiers such as usernames and handles not linked to Roblox
- Sensitive credentials such as social security number
- Visual and audio media of themselves or other non-public figures
- Full legal names except as permitted in Customizable Connection Requests, Usernames or Display Names for eligible users
I’m interested in making a game with historical figures in the game’s cutscenes (according to the political rule, “recent” world leaders aren’t allowed, 1990 or so isn’t recent in my opinion, but “recent” is vague) and mentions of real alliances (ie. NATO/Warsaw pact) and fictional events. None of them contain any political content other than military alliances and nations and/or their leaders.
So would a video with historical public-domain footage or images be allowed to be uploaded? It would be spliced with Roblox footage since it’s a storyline.
The rules are a little to vague to get a clear answer since this seems to be allowed, but it isn’t defined clearly. I’d like to get a more clear answer from a staff member.
