We have increased the supported experience server size for Voice Chat from 50 to 100 users.
If your experience has Voice Chat enabled and the server size is between 1 - 100, you’re all set! Eligible users will now receive Voice Chat functionality when in-experience.
What’s next? 200! We are actively looking into supporting the maximum server size.
Increasing the number of voice-enabled users may seem like a flip of the switch, but increasing max server size comes with additional challenges. Here are some tips to make things smoother!
Custom Matchmaking
With our new safety initiatives, only users within the same age group may chat with each other. If your experience greatly relies on voice communication, we recommend utilizing our custom matchmaking Age signal to increase the likelihood that users are in a server with people they can interact with.
Scaling Your Experience for 50+ Users
Having your experience run for 50+ users may require design changes to ensure the quality of your experience is the same. Be sure to consider:
Map size - Is there enough room for users to interact?
More users - What is the additional performance cost of more items (e.g. player tools) and structures (e.g. player houses)? Does your experience have headroom to support 50 more avatars?
Regularly Check Performance
From prior beta testing, we have not observed any performance issues from additional Voice Chat users. However, more users and assets can lead to other performance issues. We recommend checking your MicroProfiler, performance analytics on the Creator Hub, and having an open channel with your community for bug reports.
To check specifically for voice related issues, please check the Sound FMOD::Output::Mix and Voice CustomAudioMixer::Mix tabs in the MicroProfiler. In addition, keep an eye on the Sound and Voice memory categories in the counters tab.
This is definitely one of the better updates so far this year. It’ll be interesting to see what developers can do with this and the chaos that accompanies it lol.
But we need Roblox made voice chat settings to change people’s mic volume from our side (as a player)
Big thanks for your work on this! This is a change that I personally have been waiting for, for a long time. I cant wait to see even 300+ servers with voice chat soon!
I like this but a common problem I experience with voice chat is that there is no volume setting for voice chat itself in the experience settings which is very annoying when I can’t hear players because of game sounds or they can’t hear me. Can we see voice chat volume settings soon?
Seriously we’ve been needing this for a while now.
I believe with the newer audio APIs you could potentially add your own custom volume slider as a developer? I’m not 100% sure if it allows you to adjust voice volume or not. It still should be a built-in feature regardless though.
