Currently as of 1/15/26 (and for the past 3+ years), voice chat moderation is extremely buggy. During the course of a normal conversation, it is possible to be warned multiple times and then indefinitely banned from voice chat despite having said nothing wrong or inappropriate. In some cases, a full account ban is also given. This makes it very difficult to use voice chat as a developer or player, because we are randomly blocked from using the feature when the AI hallucinates.
Steps to reproduce:
- Join a social VC game with a friend
- Have a normal conversation with said friend. Mention the words “potato chips”.
- Observe that you are given multiple warnings during the course of the conversation.
- Observe that you are now VC banned or account banned with no reason given.
It is also possible to be issued a VC ban if multiple people false-report you via the in-game report form in an attempt to “troll” you.
Expected behavior
Multiple things are expected to happen:
- It is expected that I would not be banned for having a normal, appropriate, non-ToS breaking conversation with a group of friends
- It is expected that being false-reported multiple times would not result in an automatic ban
- It is expected that when a ban is issued, there would be a popup clearly indicating WHY the ban was issued, and for how long the ban is in effect.
- It is expected that appealing the ban would not be responded to with “We are unable to assist in this matter” from Roblox appeals support.
Voice chat moderation is fundamentally broken, and has been since its introduction around 2022. I made a feature request a few years ago to improve the moderation experience of voice chat, the team ignored it : Voice chat moderation : Moderation reason needs to be given when banned from voice chat
