Agreeing with the people in this thread that this was a super weird bug! This was actually an ancient and, for some reason, intentional part of Roblox’s code. The reasoning behind it is lost to the mists of time.
I fixed it up to make the swimming behavior more intuitive, though, and it should be rolling out soon.
