Want some feedback on some general builds!

Heya!

It’s been a very long time since I posted in this section of the Developer Forums at all. I’ve been wanting to get some general feedback on some of the work I’ve been doing for the past year or two. One reason for this is because I have no idea how I’d judge my own skill level.

That’s why I’m here, posting this thread. Now that I’ve gotten all of that out of the way, I’d like to show you some builds I’ve been working on (or had to put on hold because I’m working on other projects and doing other things other than development).

Below I’ve added drop-downs which reveal each kind of build, which I would like feedback on. Feel free to have a look! :slightly_smiling_face:

(my bad if this thread breaks any rules I’m not aware of lol)

Forest in the Sunset

This build was made using models a friend suggested I use, as at the time I had no experience in 3D modelling whatsoever. Can’t remember the name of the pack containing said models, but if I remember I’ll edit this paragraph with a little note on the end.
This build is one of the ones that is on hold, thus is not completed.

For this one, I’m more-so looking for feedback on the terrain.

Let me know what you think!

Low Poly Forest Level

This one’s for a game I’m working on, a collectathon platformer of sorts featuring stars that wear sunglasses and different kinds of unique levels. I made this after spending a long time learning how to use Blender, then practiced by making some generic forest assets. So, in a way, I do have some kind of 3D modelling experience here. This one takes place in a forest during the autumn, again during a sunset. See a pattern, yet?

This one is also still in development.

For this one, I’m looking for general feedback.

Let me know what you think of this, too!

That should be all of them for now. Thank you in advance!

Have a wonderful day!

Great job on the low poly map! You managed to take the hyper generic aesthetic and make it better with the lighting. though the waterfall could use some polishing.

low poly one is sick the realistic one is just like having unrealistic cubey builds and not as much foliage vegetation flowers etc as i would like

Thank you! I agree that the waterfall could use a lot of improvements. I’ve actually been having trouble with it.

I know this is a bit late but the reason the waterfall looks bad is because the texture you used is supposed to emulate the waves/ foam of flat water. whereas in a waterfall it would have to look like its flowing very fast.

They’re so cool! I really like the low poly maps.
(maybe add some mountains or extra hills behind the waterfalls)

I think they’re cool but not sure I like the lighting in low poly one, low poly typically requires certain lighting that doesn’t base on realism.

For the realistic one I feel the lighting is a bit too orange, and maybe the brightness up just a bit.

Yeah, I’ve struggled with lighting the low poly one. How would I go about making it look better?

Thank you for the feedback! I’ll note this down, and I do agree it’s too orange.

So first I’m by no means a builder nor a lighting expert. But the way I imagine it is that low poly while hard to make has a goal of looking simple, so that’s the direction I would take the lighting too.

There’s a lot of games that probably have what I’m talking about where the lighting seems super simple as if they barely put work on it, but yet a great match with low poly.

Ah, I understand. I’ll try messing around with the lighting! Thanks!
