Weekly Recap: February 2 - 6, 2026

Betas and Tests

[Beta] 4D Generation: Unlock New Types of Gameplay

  • 4D generation is available in beta to all experiences via GenerateModelAsync, producing replicated interactive multi-part models with higher-quality meshes and 20–40 second latency, schema options limited to Body-1 and Car-5, size and MaxTriangles controls, and structured JSON from the Text Generation API.
  • The legacy Mesh Generation API sunsets on March 18, 2026, requiring migration to GenerateModelAsync, with initial limits of 10 requests per minute per experience, weapons only generated in experiences labeled mild violence or higher, and generated objects not persisting across sessions until future persistence APIs.

Updates and Announcements

[February 6, 2026] An Update on Our Age Check to Chat Fast-Follow Roadmap

  • We’re updating our roadmap to include new API methods to group users by age-compatibility.
  • At the bottom of this post we’ve included an FAQ section to address the top questions from our last update (yes, we are reading as many of your comments as we can). We’ll add more FAQs to future updates for new questions that pop up.

New Chat APIs: Teleport Users Who Can Chat Together

  • TextChatService:GetChatGroupsAsync is available now and VoiceChatService:GetChatGroupsAsync launches next week, returning per-player chat group IDs that indicate which players can text or voice chat together for grouping and teleportation.
  • These server-side APIs must be enabled via Experience Settings > Communication with agreement to the Terms, their group IDs are universe-unique and can change over time, and you may not store, aggregate, or cross-reference the returned data beyond its intended use.

Ads Manager UI & Targeting Enhancements

  • Ads Manager now uses a two-step setup (pick goal, then audience) with audience presets (New Players, Recent Players, Lapsed Players), advanced targeting by device, location, gender, genre, and age, a learning-period notification, and planned Home/Search placement controls.
  • Applying audience, genre, gender, or age targeting limits delivery to 18+ users who opted into personalized ads and can raise costs, and bid caps have been removed as the system is designed to spend the full budget during the campaign window.

Upcoming .ROBLOSECURITY Cookie Format Changes

  • Breaking format changes to the .ROBLOSECURITY authentication cookie will be enforced on or after May 1, 2026.
  • Workflows using hard-coded or outdated cookies—especially those with the warning+hex or warning+GgIQAQ.hex formats—must honor Set-Cookie header updates and rotate to recently issued cookies to avoid invalidation and 401 responses.

Upcoming Changes to Account Recovery for Users with 2SV

  • Recovering a 2-Step Verification–enabled account after losing your primary 2SV method will require two distinct verification methods, fully enforced by March 2026.
  • Accounts must have at least two recovery methods on file—phone (13+), passkey, or backup codes—or recovery may fail, and phone-based recovery requires completing both email and phone challenges so SIM swapping alone cannot regain access.

Completing the Dynamic Head Migration

  • We are not deprecating R6 or 2D clothing: We are committed to maintaining the Classic look, meaning the R6 API, user inventories, and 2D clothing mechanics will remain intact even as we evolve our unified avatar system.
  • The head designs currently in documentation are not final: We are actively iterating on these designs to achieve 1:1 parity with Classic faces, and we will continue to rely on transparency and community feedback to guide these changes.

Community and Events

Games for Change Challenge: Win Up to $15k Cash Prize

  • Roblox and Games For Change are running a challenge to create Roblox experiences that foster positive connection, community, and online safety, awarding $15,000 for first place and $10,000 for second.
  • Submissions are open January 30 to April 17, 2026 (11:59 pm PT), must be live experiences released or updated within the last 12 months to fit the challenge scope, with winners announced June 8, 2026 and showcased July 21, 2026 at the Games For Change Festival.

This week’s Rating :sparkles:: 5/10
Last week’s Rating :sparkles:: 3/10

I have not been posting anything all week to say… this will be my last weekly rating on the dev forum. I have been rating each roblox recap for a couple of months now, but I no longer feel safe to post on here regularly anymore.

I originally started doing weekly ratings to see if Roblox just needed some community feedback on what works and what doesn’t, but they have made it clear that listening to the community is the last thing on their to-do list. And even if I wanted to keep going, the update happening on March 18th will stop me from rating weeks no matter what. And I am very close to being removed from the dev forum entirely because of all the protest pictures I posted.

But there is also that I hate giving Roblox bad ratings, I want to see them do good like anyone else here. I feel good when they actually innovate, not talk about AI slop and child safety which just puts more kids in danger.

They are behind on so many features and the fact that they are only putting out safety announcements that no one cares about bores me to death as a developer. I want the platform to evolve, not lock down. I used to feel like a kid on Christmas day waiting for an announcement to drop, now it’s “Oh god, I hope they don’t make another AI slop or age verification update.”

If this is my last post on dev forum, let this post be my grave. I have said my feelings.

Awful. I hate investors for Pushing AI. And I just hate Age verification as a whole

Also I don’t know how people pulled up stuff from 2022 and thought that was still being pushed, even if it was meant for 2023 originally. Like HOLY FEAR MONGERING. But glad you actually cleared this up

Can we deprecate the migration? It’s not that hard to put the faces/heads back onsale and to just bundle the classic with all the dynamic variants so a player can choose what they prefer

But I mean, do we as players even matter anymore? The devforum is being silenced and reduced to “product feedback” for crying out loud

Well, thank god, I heard rumors of R6 being migrated or classic clothing, but I’m at least somewhat happy that you clarified on it.

I’m mixed on this… At the same time, it’s kinda a good thing, but also a bad thing.

My final rating: 3/10

Yeah definitely a productive week. $RBLX is several digits closer to zero. Let’s see an overview of the highly productive, useful, community-oriented improvements that Roblox Corporation has introduced this week to make our experiences as amazing as possible!

That’s odd. I thought Roblox’s absolute priority was user safety, which includes preventing developers from secretly storing, selling, and targeting users based on their age range. WAIT, Roblox has appropriate safety measures to prevent this, right!?

Close one!!! I almost though they were gonna let that go, but they politely asked us to not store it, which should solve 1000% of any possible (illegal) storage of users’ age. Roblox will be sure to check each data store to ensure that devs don’t check if users can chat with pre-verified bot alts to determine their age range. I am truly impressed at how much Roblox is doing to protect their community.

Amazing! Now ad buyers can choose their audiences that are most likely to enjoy their experience!!! (don’t worry, Roblox also included an update in 707 fixing those critically broken error messages that said “game” rather than “experience” as well)

As we all know, this new ads manager will absolutely NOT be abused and is 1000% abuse proof, and if there was an insane and totally not real case in which a developer tried making a condo game and advertised it to minors in front of Roblox’s face, the industry-leading AI-moderation will absolutely take care of it. Roblox has a long history of banning all inappropriate activity and would never let dating games accessible by children go unnoticed in charts for weeks.

Thanks! I was waiting for years in hopes that someday, .ROBLOSECURITY cookies would be broken. Appreciated!!

My favorite part of this week: finally Roblox deleted those old “faces” that only 95% of the platform still uses and forced an update that is clearly based on “transparency and community feedback” as they promised. So far, the community feedback seems to be 1000% positive, and therefore, old unused deprecated widely hated 2d faces should be removed as soon as possible. And don’t worry, the new faces come with tongues too!

See, Roblox fully understands what the community wants – the classic look. This is completely non-contradictory and part of Roblox Corporation’s long-term messages to the world this week.

New Chat APIs: Teleport Users Who Can Chat Together

  • Keep in mind you must comply with Roblox’s Terms of Use and you can only use API responses for their intended use. Storing, aggregating, or cross-referencing data returned from this API such as chat groups to build profiles or infer personal details about users is not permitted.

Currently, their only deterrence for people creating a database to store every user’s age group and to cross-reference it across all servers to identify every player’s age group is “oh, don’t do that!”

Tip: you can use <…> to make the … invisible

dont take their word for granted
they’ve already broken the promise with keeping classic faces
let it go for a year or so and then we’ll get to see R6 being removed.

This is the “safety measure”

I really don’t see how they’ll enforce this. Considering the games allowing players to chat freely are still on the platform…

I’m pretty sure Roblox also sends all age groups to clients for whatever reason. I don’t see how exploiters would care about this

I bet you wonder how that went with SetCore, right? With “”“”“Crosswoods”“”“”?
