Weekly Recap: January 19 - 23, 2026

Hey Creators! :sparkles:

It’s been a productive week and we’re excited to share what’s new and what’s next. Remember, we keep information at a high level within these recaps. For more information or to leave feedback, please comment on their official announcements linked below.

Updates and Announcements

An Update on Our Age Check to Chat Fast Follow Roadmap

  • This roadmap update highlights our progress on enabling communication across different age groups, specifically noting the development of a Global Chat system and creator-defined preset messages.

[Studio Beta] Introducing Avatar Makeup

  • We discovered a bug when processing the UVMinBound and UVMaxBound of a WrapTextureTransfer while importing a makeup asset into Studio. This bug resulted in an incorrect fit for makeup when adjusting these parameters.
  • We are rolling out a fix to this bug that may change the current fit of your makeup asset. We recommend reimporting your makeup assets into Studio in order to get the correct fit again. The example place file default makeup assets have also been updated to reflect this change.

Video uploads now available in all supported languages!

  • Video assets can now be uploaded in all languages supported for other asset types, including German, French, Italian, Polish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Thai, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, and Korean.
  • Video localization now matches other assets across these locales, with documentation available for uploading and usage and an open call for requesting additional language support.

Testing Time-based Avatar Items in February

  • Time-based avatar items offering 3, 7, or 14-day access will be tested the week of February 2, 2026 for all 3D items in the t-shirts, pants, and sweaters categories.
  • Participation is optional, and creators can opt out globally via Creations > Avatar items by turning Timed Options Off or per asset in Creator Hub > Manage Item by toggling Timed Options Off.

[Full Release] UI Styling is officially released!

  • UI Styling APIs and the no-code Style Editor are fully released, enabling global overrides of UI instance properties using StyleRules, StyleSheets, StyleLinks, and StyleDerives.
  • Recent additions allow pseudostyling UIPageLayout and viewing Plugin StyleSheets via PluginDebugService in the Style Editor, with multiple bugs fixed and the editor available under Studio’s UI tab for publishing styled experiences.

Accessory Pins for Roblox Badges moving off of User Profiles

  • We appreciate your feedback and understand that you want to preserve Roblox history, so we have created accessory pins to commemorate the Roblox Badges moving off of User Profiles.
  • These are off-sale Front Accessories (i.e. Bricksmith Badge, Ambassador Badge, Veteran Badge) and should have now been awarded to everyone who has the corresponding Roblox badge (with the exception of the Admin badge).

Community and Events

Roblox Developer Challenge 2026

  • A 72-hour Roblox Developer Challenge runs February 6 to February 9, 2026, requiring a playable, theme-based experience created only during the window by teams of 1–5 DevForum-registered members using any owned pre-made assets listed in the submission survey.
  • Valid submissions earn DevRel Virtual Prizes Series 2, category winners selected by an anonymous panel receive a $1,500 GoGift Global Gift Card per member across five categories (Engagement, Technical Quality, Creative Theme, Interactive AI, Innovative Gameplay), and participants can request early access to new 3D/4D generation features via a form.

age checks of doom, despair and everything unfair

You misspelled “Release Notes”.

Why are we even getting this? It’s a pointless feature when games like Catalog Avatar Creator exist. You can wear whatever items you want for free, then buy them if you’re happy with how it looks. Time-based offers are just a paid version of this system, and really has no reason to exist.

I still think it would have been better to expand on the Roblox Badge system rather then remove it, especially when the announcment post for their removal says “We’re constantly working to make Profiles the best possible place to showcase unique identity, achievements, and valuable contributions to the platform”. Regardless, at least this is a nice placement.

What a good week! Especially the new age check roadmap updates. I really liked this one, rare W from Roblox.

I like the Dev Challenge, Time-Based Avatar Items, Video Uploads, and UI Styling.

I don’t like the addition of Makeup, Age Check (In general), or moving Roblox Badges off the User Profile. It feels un-needed and I don’t think I’ve seen people wanting either of those at all before the updates. Although I do like the updates of Age Check putting people of the same age group in the same lobbies it still just feels meh in general to have.

But that’s my opinion : )

What does the process look like for truly critical systems such as S.L.I.M, server authority, or a completely new terrain algorithm?

Kind regards,

I’d rate the week a 1 out of 10.

  1. There are almost no updates at all.
  2. Those that are there are either minor or terrible.

These are the most corporate, anti-consumer updates of all time.

TEMPORARY avatar items, renting a hat or piece of clothing has gotta be one of the most DYSTOPIAN things I’ve ever seen.
It’s one of those traps (like subscriptions) specifically designed to make people spend as much money as possible and hope that they forget to cancel it.

Besides the addition of being able to chat with “Connections”, yeah, well all mine are my friends so you can keep the term honestly. That aside, though, I wouldn’t say this is all that impressive. Cool, we got Avatar makeup. Doesn’t seem like it should’ve been as focal or needed as a lot of other things for Roblox at the moment, but we got it as an update anyway. Videos for all languages sounds good, but until it’s used a lot, does it really have as much import, I’d argue not. Can you actually impress your audience with better and more relevant Roblox updates? Thanks.

A new week, some new announments. Only four though and they seem corporate.

:sparkles: My rating: 22/40

UI styling and Video translations are cool but… can we get something cool like a terrain update, more than 1 graphics setting, and viewports are still very unbaked and can’t render particle emitters.
——

Some features that the community wants:

  1. Add “Copy path to instance” to the Explorer’s context menu
  2. Make the size limit of Particle Emitters more
  3. Let us get custom lighting for avatar renders
  4. Let us choose how big the lighting grid is
    ——

See you next week, Robloxians! (If roblox doesn’t collapse on itself)

Please end support for <2GB android devices

under 2 gb ram android phones you say?

Limited RAM on Android phones often means less multitasking capability and potential for slower app performance. However, budget-friendly models with under 2GB of RAM can still be quite functional for basic tasks like calling, messaging, and web browsing if optimized by manufacturers or through a lightweight ROM alternative like OxygenOS.

Age restrictions on video games often evoke frustration as younger gamers find themselves excluded from certain experiences. This can create a sense of unequal treatment among peers who are denied access based solethough the intent is to protect vulnerable audiences, age checks aim to foster an environment where everyone has fair and appropriate gaming content available to them at their maturity level.

Uh, no. You are very wrong on that.

Productive week? Yeah no.

Roblox needs to divest at this point and shut down whatever departments are coming up with this, and if it’s from the top we need new management.

Thank you Roblox for another week of fulfilling updates! You are not destroying the platform do not listen to haters. All hail David and his wonderful decisions to pioneer the platform!
