Whenever I use R6, nearly all my accessories become blurred, only 2-3 accessories seem to stay clean and full res, however, if we switch to r15, all accessories go to full res, This doesnt really look good on accessory heavy avatars, like mine, and
im just curious to why this happens
R15
Hey, thanks for taking the time to make a bug report.
To share some historical context, a texture for an R6 avatar is drawn to one 1024x512 “composite texture” including the textures for all the body parts, shirts/pants, and accessories. This is to reduce avatar memory usage and at the time this system was designed the number of draw calls per avatar.
Because the entire texture is 1024x512, accessory textures are not drawn at full resolution when a slot exists for them on the composite texture atlas. R15 was designed with more space on the texture atlas, and later R15 accessories were removed from the atlas so they could be rendered at a higher resolution and include PBR.
As far as I’m aware of there aren’t any current plans to change this for R6, but it is something we may consider in the future. For now this is unfortunately by design, it’s been how the platform has rendered accessories on R6 avatars for over 10 years at this point.
but, there is a fix for devs right? some games fix this, like TSB, only game i can think that fixes this issue out the top of my head, but oh well, like you said, its a design flaw.
Developers can work around this behavior in their experiences in a few ways, for example using MeshPart Accessories (which won’t be composited) with R6 avatars or welding Accessories to the character while keeping them outside of the character Model so the Humanoid texture compositing system doesn’t pick them up.
