What additions should I implement into my TestPlatformer game?

Currently, I have drained three-ish days, and have already implemented enough features in my game to have it playable. I want to know what you all think would be good for features for my game, as well as what I should fix.

Notably, I have some bug fixes and features in mind already, so please don’t reply with the same features/bug fixes below:

  • Bug Fix: Disable movement and zoom controls when typing
  • Feature: Ability System, starting off with adding BreakBlocks (a pre-port ability)
  • Shop System & Settings

Although that, additions relating to the features predefined is fine, such as a new ability or shop item.

Here is the game link as well as the Bulletin post relating to the game at a time when the game was still in a closed build.

This game looks awesome! I really like the simplicity it has, along with the current physics of the block you play as.

For ideas:

  • The higher you go to avoid the lava, the background and block you play as can change a different color. [Almost like those Obby Tower games where it changes colors with each level and increasing difficulty]
  • I’m sure you’ve already thought of this, but making the UI of the health at the bottom of the screen smaller and a different font so it’s a bit easier to look at.
  • Also possibly implementing a “sprint/speed up” system, since I’m not really sure what the blue bar above the health stands for (I’m assuming it’s some sort of shield since it goes down as you lose health).

However, I did find a bug while playing.
During one of the runs, I spawned inside two of the large squares, and I couldn’t move at all until I died from the lava and the round started over.

Overall, I really love this game and concept! I would definitely play it in my free time, and I can see it getting big if you continue with it. Somewhat reminds me of Geometry Dash :]

That would actually be pretty good to add, and if you are inside or too close to the lava, it can start displaying blur effects. I think I can also configure the color of the squares for sure based on the client.

I actually thought it would be too small the first time I fixed up the UI, but I’m pretty sure I can find the proper size for it now with this bit of feedback. Although that, I have a set of three fonts I want to remain sticking to for my game, which are: Arial, Arial Bold, and Code

The blue bar actually is your Ability Energy, which is depleted on ability use (although abilities haven’t been made yet), and depletes way faster and regenerates way faster than your health. Also, an ability to Speed up and have jump boost could probably be really good!

I think I’m going to add a feature where you can teleport to a new initial position for 10 seconds (with a a small forfeit in points to discourage TP-abuse), and that should prevent spawning inside of squares.

Thanks for your feedback!

This game is frustrating, difficult, and painful.

I LOVE IT.

I would definitely play this in my spare time, it’s got a unique aesthetic, cool physics, and annoyingly hard platforming. Kind of reminds me of a combination of Getting Over It and ToH.

You should definitely add abilities of some sort, and you get to pick one ability, and can buy new ones from some sort of shop. You can have abilities like a sideways dash, an upwards dash, low-gravity, etc.

Can’t wait to see what comes of this, keep working!
