I’m a builder that wants to spread her circle of skills. I need some help.
Is there anything basic you guys started on? Or something that you learned from and helped you grow in 3d modelling skills? Please share some tips and tricks, and things that helped you stay motivated to learn more.
Main question: What did you guys start with when you were a beginner 3d modeller?
NOTE: I USE BLENDER 2.82 (Blender 2.79 frustrates me terribly)
Honestly I just challenged myself everyday to better myself, it’s overcoming the problems you face that makes you better. I started with small assets like pots, pans, rocks and trees and worked my way from there.
Besides the tutorial doughnut from The Blender Guru, I started with trees. Four years later, I’m still working on trees haha.
First tree (surprised I still have the file).
Latest tree(s)
Really, just pick a simple object or thing you really enjoy and know, and use that knowledge as a reference. It’s a lot easier to model things you’re familiar with
Personally I started around 4 months ago, I was then modeling a sword for the first time (probably not the best to start with) which turned out not-as-good as I’ve expected. What really motivated me was that I could make cool stuff while having fun, which you should be having fun while modeling. Really, just start modeling at your own pace as it means you can learn while modeling way better than if you try to rush it. Try starting with low-poly meshes as it’s usually the easiest and there you can find out your style of modeling then continuing there.
Grant abitt, what makes his tutorials best is that he explains how a tool works, then he demonstrates how to use it, then he tells you to finish making the shape of the model. So instead of just copying what he does, you can actually learn.
