What happens to the copyright of a game that becomes open access (allow copying)?

Hello everybody. I was just wondering what happens to the copyright of a game that has become open access, or in other words allows copying of the game. Does the copyright go to whoever takes the game, or does the copyright still belong to the original maker? Or is there no more copyright anymore unless someone adds their own thing into it? If someone does add something to the game, does the copyright extend over to that? Thanks.

If you put the game so others can access to it, all things you made will no longer have copyright.

If you make it open sourced there is no copyright on the game because your making it open for others to use.

Okay, but what if you add something onto the game- then do you get copyright for that version of the game? So in other words, once you add something to the game, do you then get copyright for it, including the open source part? Thanks.

Just if the thing you made was published after the game access was closed, all made before and while game access is open will not get copyright. (but if you disable game access after activating it, the things that were there when game access was open, it still don’t get copyright back)

No, I mean like if I add something to the open source game, like my own code and stuff, then do I get copyright for this edited version of the game, including all the open source material originally? So like, if I edit it, I will get the copyright for that version of the game?

You would just get copyright for the parts of the game that you made on the editted version, but not for the parts that you “copied”.

I see. So basically the added parts of this game would then become copyrighted so no one can directly copy them. Thank you.
