I’m planning to make a realistic replica of the Australian City of Canberra with government buildings and I wanted to create realistic pillars for them but I don’t know how to? Does anyone know how to?
. What do you want to achieve?
I saw these pillars on the Devforum and I think they are Greek and I wanted to create a replica of them here’s the post and what I wanna make:
. **What is the issue?
While I found the post I’m not sure how to make a pillar that looks similar to it. I tried to recreate it but it didn’t look as detailed or realistic as them.
**What solutions have you tried so far?
I tried looking on the Devforum for pillars that looked like these and I found this post but I didn’t like the top as it’s not what I’m looking for:
There are numerous ways to create pillars, but the one I think that may suit you is to use Blender!
You can import an image of the pillar you want, and simply create a cylinder and modify it. You can use the Mirror modifier to ease your progress by automatically “mirroring” 4 quadrants of the pillar.
It is possible within studio as well but it would be much hard and a lot less detailed as compared to using Blender.
I do have a question though, would you have to use symmetry (x and y axis) with stuff like quadrants to mirror it and possibly make it so edits on one part reflect across all four.
Yeah, that’s exactly what the mirror modifier does! I would recommend doing that for the base and top part of the pillars as the middle structure can be done easily as the person in the video I linked showed.
You could also use this app on your phone and go to pillar you like (in real life) and scan it with your phone. Yes you may look weird but at the end of the day a couple hours later or even minutes no one’s gonna care at all.
I was watching some Roblox Developer YouTuber by the name of: @HollersHolly
It looks like this app automatically textures the stuff for you (I don’t know for sure) she says a couple things in the video like:
Like the app makes them have quite weird topography and could be optimized further (not sure that’s in general or just for her assests)
The scans she showed us were museum artificers she says she didn’t travel all the way around the world to scan these objects i don’t know I didn’t watch all the video.
How the 3D scan works is it uses your camera and move it around the the thing your scanning which you could call your model. The camera will figure out a rough idea of the model/scan and then they will translate it into triangles.
(In the video it looks like she goes on her pc now because of her mouse and looks like you can customise it.
The last image you can edit around in a 3D software like blender
You don’t need any fancy 3D scan just your regular phone.
There are many apps like this but she recommends
Maker World AI Scanner
A recent thing she found is a website called
Hunyuan 3D which turns 2D images into 3D models
She says museums are trying to digital upload them to save them because one of them burned down and lost like some stuff or everything so she went on one of those and scanned.
I don’t know much about this as I just skipped through most of it. The video has timestamps so just look for the bits you want:
