I’m currently working on a Portal 2 style project, wherein most parts of the facility is suspended over a massive pit. I’m looking for a way to make these pits look like they get darker and darker to hide the fact they go like 50 studs down then end. I’ve tried using parts and making a manual transparency gradient, but no matter the size I make the layers, it still looks janky.
TLDR: I need a way to add fake depth to a fake pit.
If anyone has any solutions to this, It would be appreciated.
You can use a decal of a gradient on invisible parts that are on the walls of the pit. And you can change the color of the decals to black. (and then have a pitch black neon part at the bottom of the pit)
I was going to add onto this but yeah, making a pit look darker the deeper down you go absolutely adds to the “depth” effect.
Even if the bottom of the pit is visible, just the fact it’s darker makes it look super deep and far away.
I wouuuuud add that camera FOV can in fact also play a role, like if you want to do a little bit of scripting.
Just like how increasing FOV can make the world seem faster when you’re sprinting, FOV could also be increased or decreased when looking down at the pit, just experiment with what looks right.
