What should I make?

Ok, so I want to work on my programming and building skills. (along with all my other developing skills) and I figured a project would help out! (I also got a bit too much time on my hands lately) Any simple ideas? I’m extremely bad/new to programming by the way. I kind of feel like making a simulator or tycoon. I’d be willing to try other games, though. Thanks for the help!!!

Note; This isn’t my first game I’ve made

Try making some kind of showcase

Where does the programming come in? And can you throw out some ideas I can build? Thanks!

Hello Robloxian,
For making a game, you would require your own personal experience first.

These are the following link for your first game. You must create an obby and work with it. You’ll learn more and more from it and also add some more things into it.
Remember : A builder makes a thing and a Scripter gives life to that thing. That’s what you’ll need. Building and Scripting.

I’ve created a few games before, and I don’t understand why you said

:joy: Like its the only option, but good suggestion though, I’ll 100% make one in the future!

To start simple, you could make a basic simulator type game.

Here’s my idea:

Even though there are tons of speed simulators, they are quite easy to make. Make a speed simulator with some of your own ideas and you could have your first game done!

[This is slightly more advanced, but still, it’s not too bad]
If your doing a tycoon, then you could try making some sort of town/city tycoon to start (but this should be a sandbox type game).

These ideas are very simple and not new in anyway, but they can help you to start developing.
One thing I will say, is to make something like a simulator to start, but once you can make something better, build a more advanced game.

Simulators don’t require much programming, and when they do it’s mostly one main feature and the UI.

A tycoon (sandbox version) is a bit more advanced because you have to design a placement system (or use a module written by someone else), add a save feature to serialize your tycoon, and add some UI elements. This is for the most basic version of a tycoon.

A sandbox tycoon seems extremely complicated to me, but a speed simulator might be cool, any ideas on that?

You could add in some sort of questing system on top of the core “simulator” game play. That’s what me and three other devs did with a tycoon kit (not sandbox).

Well, if you’re experienced then I had an idea of creating a racing game though.
I would name it B.A.T.S - Blox Arena Turbo Stars

You can see that there are thousands to millions of games about players controlling a thing or making the player a tool/simulator itself (For example : Legends of Speed).
But, have you ever seen something with cars with several upgrading, something very very new?
Well, being a Robloxian, use your imagination and add something to a Car racing game which will be well balanced and something unreal.

I can suggest you to work on a game like this, hope so that this idea might draw your attention in the future

Another thing you should do is, think up an idea that you can’t do at the moment. Start developing it now and work overtime. Soon you will see that you are learning the stuff needed to make that game, and soon enough, the game will be finished.

Just like @chrisspoopoo2365 suggested, I would also like to see a showcase. You could maybe program some fun little easter eggs or secret doors?

Just start building and programming and see what happens! Let your creativity loose!

If you’re going to create a game, you should probably assemble a team of developers (or work solo, if you possess such qualities and skills to do so).

Things to consider:-

  • GOAL: What is the main objective of your game? Should players work to reach an end goal or is there no end?
  • TOPIC: Is the game roleplay-orientated? Or is it perhaps a simulator?
  • THEME: What is the main theme of the game? Does the game give a message to the player? Or does the game just encourage players to have fun?
  • AUDIENCE: What age are you aiming the game at? 5-11, 12-18, etc

Also, self explanatory, you should make your game unique. Whether you take inspiration from some games to build your game or not, it shouldn’t be a blatant copy of another game.

NEVER:

  • Focus on monetisation. You should work on the main features, and add monetisation later.
  • Go overkill. If you add too many features at once that makes bug testing impossible, you’ve messed up.
  • Don’t bug test. By this, I mean you should bug test frequently, to ensure that no sneaky bugs mess up the game!

Moreover, I suggest watching some RDC keynotes about how to improve your game:

I know I’ve gone off the topic slightly, but with the help of fitting with the “Game Do’s and Don’ts”, you should be good to able to design a game idea, and then bring that to life (if you put your mind to it!)

Simulators might be too much if you just started programming

I recommend going with something extremely basic, but something you can expand upon

maybe make a obby checkpoint system from scratch + add on to it with more obstacles (script and build these)

you can work on building and scripting this way, and if you ever get stuck you can always reference back to the roblox made obby template game

most importantly just have fun and make anything you want its Roblox go crazy

Thanks alot for this, and I want to make it by myself for a learning experience, I don’t intend on making any robux off of it.
