I simply want to check if an item has a certain property, such as Color, or BackgroundColor3. I’m unsure of the best way to achieve this.
local Item = game.Workspace["PARTNAMEHERE"]
if Item["Color"] then
elseif Item["BackgroundColor3"] then
end

Hi! I think your method looks pretty solid, I do something similar along those lines:
local Item = game.Workspace["PARTNAMEHERE"]
if Item["Color"] ~= nil then -- If it is not nil, then it has the property!
print("Item has property!")
elseif Item["BackgroundColor3"] == nil then -- Important to make sure you don't error out
print("Item does not have property!")
end
Another way to classify objects can be checking if they share a specific tag:
local CollectionService = game:GetService("CollectionService")
for _, TaggedItem in ipairs(CollectionService:GetTagged("TAGNAME") do
print(tostring(TaggedItem) .. "is a TAGNAME.")
-- You can now apply functionality to TaggedItem, which you searched through a specific tag
end
I hope this helps!
