Hello friends,
I’m finally deciding to make a roblox game of some sort. I know this’ll take a while, and for now I’m solo. I know there’s (sadly) a million ways to do one thing when it comes to scripting and such. Let me get to the point, apologies.
Now, I’ve modeled a simple sword on Blender, added Textures using Adobe Substance Painter 3D, yadda yadda. Basically, I have a sword.
I’ve followed some tutorials for adding the sword to your roblox character by creating a pseudo handle, setting the transparency of that “part” on the handle of the sword, welding it, joining it, parenting the handle to the right arm, yadda yadda the basics! The “duh” if you will.
I’m no stranger to exporting animations from Blender to Roblox Studio using the plugin everyone uses, Blender Animations by CAUTIONED
Blender Animations (ultimate edition) - Creator Store
So, I’ve imported my animation (with the weapon) from Blender to Roblox Studio, and can play the animation with that plugin, or Moon Animator.
Now, I am aware of the fact that in order to make the sword… y’know, holdable, if you will, you would need to make it a tool. This is when I’ve started searching YouTube videos on how to do this oh-so-simple task to save myself from asking silly questions to the public. Well, I’ve sucessfully managed to make my sword into a tool, either spawning with it in my inventory, or picking it up from the ground. I’ve managed to add my simple idle animation I’ve made in Blender to the idle animation in use when I hold out the weapon or tool, but… Imagine the default Roblox hold tool look. That’s how it looks in my hand, AND it’s not doing the animation I’ve created in Blender, or in the video above. instead, the animation or whatever’s goin on is holding the sword flat in the bottom center of the roblox right hand, just like the default holding pose, here’s a picture along with a video.
I maybe should also mention that when I unequip the tool, the animation that was playing just… stays, making me glide across the ground. I have seen a youtube video, where the youtuber was aware of this issue and corrected the script in the pinned comment, but I’m not familiar with merging scripts or mixing them or anything of that nature. That’s why I feel like I should mention it here.
Here’s a video showing the pseudo handle welded or parented to the sword, and then welded or parented to the dummy characters, playing the animation it’s supposed to, in a position it’s supposed to be.
So, from where I am now, I don’t know where to start achieving what I’m trying to solve. I know it’s probably super easy, but i can’t find any updated or relevant videos or guides to achieve this, either they not work, or made in 1800BC. That’s why I mentioned how there’s a million ways to do one thing it seems, and there’s always effecient ways to do things. I’m inspired by Roblox games such as Type://Soul, Ghoul://RE, Demon Hunter, Age of Honor, and ABA if that matters. I’m really influenced on the whole fighting/sword combat games. Just trying to figure out how to make a combat system, but if I watch a whole bunch of tutorials, which I typically do, everything in the end would be super scrambeled and unorganized and random and I’m really trying to avoid that from happening. Two tutorials on the same subject with totally different scripts? I don’t understand.
All the tutorials and videos I’ve watched are simply exporting your rig with weapon to Blender, yadda yadda, putting it back into roblox showing the animation, and that’s all they do. Play/Show the animation in Roblox Studio. But I can barely find tutorials on how to make that exact animation WITH your weapon as an idle animation or even an attack animation or anything of that nature, so this is a last resort for me, asking Dev Forums and lookin’ like a lost puppy ![]()
If it matters, here are a few of many videos I’ve watched trying to achieve what I want. I’m not trying to do anything super special, maybe I’m searching wrong, maybe not using correct search terms or something, I dunno.
I’m not sure what else to say. If anything I should say I’m just a baby at this scripting stuff! I believe that if there’s a will, there’s a way! No, I’m not asking to design entire systems for me, or asking people to write entire scripts for me or anything, roblox says I shouldn’t so I won’t. I just intend to know the most effective way to do this nonsense.
Also, can I ask one favor? If someone else already gave an answer or anything, I still would like to know what you or other people think! Can I ask to keep the replies coming? I see lots of threads where someone asks a question, someone answers it, and despite all the views on the post, the discussion ends, not even fixing some viewers problems and such. I know other people might relate to my probably silly question.

This is the script I have, Inside of Tool, under StarterPack.
local tool = script.Parent
local player = game.Players.LocalPlayer
local char = player.Character
local hum = char.Humanoid
local amine = script.Animation
local animeplay = hum:LoadAnimation(amine)
tool.Equipped:Connect(function()
animeplay:Play()
end)
I just don’t get it… why does it say anime, amine, like wat
Thank you. With love, Rammy.
