These are the selection designs I have in place for an RTS, which one do you think should be the final design?
The one to the right. Looks pretty cool!
I think the left one could look better if the lines were stretched out like the right one.
Correct. I sure complicated that.
I think the one on the right looks better currently, but if you add the same lines or planks of wood that you did to the right and added it to the left, the left one would look better
So basically, if the right side were thicker?
Confused to what you mean here.
They look the same for me, so I can’t really comment, other than to say the ships do look cool! You can use either of them.
I think keeping them as a normal circle is good - consider how it’ll look in motion. Does the ship turn quickly? If so, that might look a bit awkward for the selection on the right.
If they turn slower then the one on the right is fine, but if there’s meant to be any quick movement I’d stick with the circle to avoid it looking janky. Otherwise, the longer circles are nice indicators of their hitboxes that the player can see.
I like the bigger circle, but the longer circle selection that is closer to the size bounds of the ship might give more definition to the ship you’re selecting and make it more clear when there’s instances in which you have many ships in the vicinity or nearby.
For example, the player might have 3 large ships, each of varying sizes or close in size, and a big circle upon selection might not be as distinguisable, as the player will expect that circle to be big for each of them. I think in some games I’ve played, there was not only a circle, but the vehicle’s color changed as well, when selected - or there’s been an outline of it. I think the thinner circle comes closer to outlining the ship.
I like the boats on the right sides you should make it bigger I can tell it’s small, And add little bit more details
The left one. Not only is it easier to make but it’s less confusing to look at. Visual clarity is a must in RTS games. You should also make the circles glow a little so it’s more noticeable(if you’re using a BillboardGui
or SurfaceGui
, set the LightInfluence
to 0).
Maybe there should be a poll
- The one on the left
- The one on the right
0 voters
In my opinion I like the one on the left better
Sounds like the majority of the votes are leaning to the left, I might end up going with that.
Honestly the left design looks better because:
- More ships
- Better design of flag
- It looks somehow smooth
What I rate
78/100 because it doesn't look that there are many things and decorations on the ship, but the ship design from the outside looks really cool. I don't know what is in the ship, this rate is just an assumption if everything is empty except the barrels on the back of the main ship
Thank you, hope you have a great day!
I would think the ships on the left look a bit better than the right. Here’s why.
- It is much simpler to look at than the ships on the right. The plank texture is spaced way far apart, even though it’s a small model.
- The hull texture matches the sail’s low detailing, unlike the ships on the right. It looks rather offset, especially for a real-time strategy game.
I think the one on the left looks better.
(By the way, I think those boats look pretty cool!)
