Which design of game mechanics is better, what do you think?

Hi, i making a open-world survival game with my friends, i’m scripter but everyone decide what to add and gives ideas, my friend gave idea to make a player less customizable, when i think the more customization is better, my goal is to achieve that roleplay and personalization would be better inside our game, but my friend thinks that this can make game more complex and harder to understand, soo i wan’t ask, is it good to add things like:

  • character customization on hight scale
  • emotes
  • interaction with things
  • tech tree
  • advancing skills to become better in many different ways

or make it simple:

  • character customization on small scale
  • basic interactions like chop tree or craft item
  • advancing skills via one or two ways max
  • not complex map
  • simple graphics

or maybe connect them both? those ideas was only things that we wan’t to add for 100%

  • Simple Mechanics
  • Complex and advanced Mechanics
  • Connect both types into one

I’m curious what do you think

Really depends on what you want and whether it matters to the game or to you.
You can have a complex and customizable experience or you can have a straightforward simple experience, whether or not one is better than the other depends on you and your playerbase.

Personally I’d keep it simple until you have a functional game and then start implementing your more complex ideas. That way you can figure out what needs to change and compare between old and new features.
