I think the colored dots look more aesthetically pleasing, but the icon buttons might make it easier to understand what’s going on, and it might make some apps have a better time expressing their own theme colors. Note - I plan for widget content to be able to extend through the whole window.

I might be biased just because I have always used Windows and haven’t used a singular Mac product in my life, but I do find the gray symbols more simple and easier to know what it does. If I was a Mac user I’d also know what the colored dots do by a glance, but since I don’t use Mac I always get confused when I see the dots and used to not know what most dots did.
Although what is the dropdown for? Usually the order is subtraction, minimize/fullizize application, and multiplication symbol.
I have a Mac, and its intuitive to me, however if your designing for the majority, you’ll want to use the icons, they are more accessible, especially because its on an opposite side as the normal mac buttons.
