I’m going to do my best to explain this, but stay with me… When I am scripting I get this white select box that makes it hard to delete the script text I need to. Whenever I drag to select multiple characters at once it pops up and ruins the selection, here is an example:

You might have pressed the Ins button on your keyboard, press it again to solve the issue.

Theres 2 tipes of typing. Regular, and i believe Insertion? Regular you know is how you normally tpye. Insertion replaces the letter in front with the letter you place, instead of just pushing the text back. To toggle modes, press the Insert key on your keyboard.
