Why do so many free models have something called 'thumbnail camera'?

So over the course of a few weeks, I’ve noticed that a ton of free models have something called ‘thumbnail camera’. Can it do anything bad? Image:Screen Shot 2021-04-07 at 8.43.52 AM
Sorry if this is not the right category to post this, I’ll move it if needed!

The thumbnail camera is for you to be able to see the object in the toolbox’s viewport area.

Having a camera inside your model makes the website use that camera to draw the preview image (“thumbnail”). The model is fine if it just has the camera, and almost always there’s no harm in leaving it there. You can also safely delete it if you don’t plan on reuploading the model.

Sorry, I don’t know what a viewport is, could you explain?

The place where the model is rendered for users to see a preview of it in the toolbox. And to add onto your original question, no, it is not harmful in any way.

Thank you for this response, I was thinking it was something important for making tools.
