Earlier this year I released a game called Raft. I’m coming back to it now to analyze what might not have worked and how I can use constructive criticism to make a better version in the future.
The project took me quite a while to develop, and I also spent about $300 on advertisements. I’m still fairly new to Roblox development, so I’d really appreciate honest feedback.
Some specific things I’d love input on:
Is the game fun and engaging?
Does it feel replayable, or do players run out of things to do quickly?
Do the rounds feel too long, or is the pacing off?
I looked for it (because my browser doesnt allow quicklinks to Roblox or smt idk) and couldnt find it, which may suggest that it just blends in with a lot of other games like it.
This probably isn’t the only problem, but it is most likely a major one.
PVE is tricky to get it right. Haven’t tested for long, just for a bit. The pacing is kind of slow from the start, I think the cannonballs should provide a bigger challenge faster.
From a player’s perspective, I’d focus on a few things.
Fun/Engagement: The core loop needs a clear ‘why should I keep playing?’ Whether it’s unlocking cosmetics, progression systems, or new challenges, players need a sense of reward beyond surviving.
Replaying Ability: Right now it might feel like once you’ve played a round or two, you’ve ‘seen it all.’ Adding progression (levels, perks, unlockables) or random events can make each run feel new.
Pacing: If rounds drag, people get bored. Shorter, punchier rounds usually improve retention — especially early game when players are still learning.
Overall, you’ve got a solid foundation. I’d look at player session length + retention metrics in your dashboard to see where people drop off. Then tweak pacing and add small rewards to keep them coming back. At least that has worked for a few of my friends.
Making a high quality game and get high player count its hard and really requires luck to have that.
The Roblox algorithm its reallt anti-small dev and it really looks how the game is engaging
enough to a game be noticeable for other players and be on the frontpage. Theres so many examples that a actual good games gets overshadowed by no-effort brainrot games that gains hella bread just you followed the trends or copy another game
Its just sad that roblox cares only the “big and engaging” games rather then small ones that have a ACTUAL potential to be popular
i dont say “just stop doing good games and follow the path of bad games that are basically cheap ways to make a money printer” im saying that its just it is what it is, this is this and that is that.
just keep trying your hardest and make good game, im wishing your luck to have as much players as you desire
Do you think it’s worth taking time and redoing it to make it better?
Or I can spend my time, my money on another project with a clearer game loop. I’m stuck between working on something new or reinvesting my time into this project.
