I am making an RPG game, set in a Cyberpunk setting, since the characters are robots. I don’t want to show them here yet, but they are like full on Metal Creatures (Humanoid Figure).
Of course there is gonna be fighting in the game. I have made both Melee fighting system, and ranged weapons (laser guns). There is not much you can do to make the shooting in your game stand out, since in the end it’s gonna be just another shooter whatever you do.
However the melee system I made, looks and feels incredibly cool. I haven’t seen anything like it in Roblox, and very rarely outside of it.
So I would like to keep the melee fighting sytem, but I don’t know how to explain it from a story perspective. Why are there Hyper evolved robots, trains, technologies, but they use swords instead of guns (I can’t keep guns in the game if I want to keep melee, because it would make the game disbalanced).
So the question: How to explain from a story perspective, why in a futuristic setting with all the modern technologies, there are no ranged weapons, but there are swords?
Maybe it’s a world where ranged weapons simply haven’t been invented.
Let’s say that the sword technology advanced quickly and was very effective, so there was no need for ranged weapons.
Your game could take place in a part of the world where guns are very inaccessible (expensive, illegal…). So the people there would have to rely on swords and melee combat.
Swords could be very powerful, perhaps able to block any projectiles. You could show this by adding a few guns here and there, but them not being a good weapon-choice because they can easily be blocked with the swords.
You could say that because of something like solar imbalances make ranged weapons unreliable and dangerous. Constant solar flares could fritz them therefore making them inoperable. Idk just an idea.
I think it may be because after years of using guns, projectiles became more costly as the material to create them was running out very very quickly, so after someone invented thsi new high-tech swords, which needed only (whatever you use as fuel or nothing) and are very more reliable than guns, guns were stopped to be created and swords were made the main weapon used across the world, just an idea
Edit: also what do you mean with swords? Do you mean something like laser swords or medieval swords? If it’s the first then keep everything like that, if it’s the seconds instead of “ so after someone invented thsi new high-tech swords, which needed only (whatever you use as fuel or nothing)” do:
“After finding a very big amount of medieval swords, they became the most used form of weapon”, also if you want you could put guns as a secdonary weapon or special weapon, you can still use them but the ammo is very very rare
