WorldModel object?

Hello, hello.

I was spending another typical evening do some code. I inserted a moduleScript through advanced objects and one of the other results underneath ModuleScript was WorldModel. It shares the same icon as Workspace.

I referenced WorldModel in the API and it inherits Model. There isn’t really anything else said about it.

I was wondering if anyone had any more information on this object? Is it just used for Workspace and nothing else? Mostly just curiosity on my end. Not expecting any uses.

Thanks!

This was mentioned in the release notes for version 410.

This object is hidden behind an FFlag currently, so you can’t use it yet.

Essentially (as mentioned above in release notes) it’s for use in ViewportFrames. The Workspace itself now inherits this new class (workspace:IsA(“WorldModel”) will be true). It allows for a lot of stuff you can do in the workspace since it sort of now behaves like the workspace on its own and can additionally be used exactly like a Model instance (the workspace previously still inherited Model, this new class has simply been sandwiched in between and a lot of workspace features have been moved to this class). The main exception I know of is physics (physics isn’t calculated in a WorldModel, still only limited to the workspace).

Workspace inherits from WorldRoot, not WorldModel. WorldModel is solely for use of simulation in ViewportFrames.

Thanks for the correction. I had thought there was another instance in between but I didn’t look thoroughly enough.
