Because of its human traits, it could be comparable to owning a pet human or even worse online dating. This pet female humanlike-creature that follows its master… it doesn’t sound great when you put it like that. For context, my project has a more serious tone. Overlook Bay does have a pet mermaid but it’s a chibi cartoonish thing. Is this a valid concern?

If it doesn’t look realistic, then I guess it is allowed. Remember those Jojo games? The players have a character behind them following them anywhere.

I know this might be off-topic, but why is considering a human as a pet bad? In the end we are all animals right? Why do we consider a dog as a pet? Why can’t we just call them our companion who follows us?
In all honesty, I personally feel that this should not be a problem at all but I understand that you might get worried when addressing a touchy subject.
When you encounter a controversial subject, it’s best not to engage it at all or bring attention towards it as it could be a problem that would only exacerbate itself overtime and invite unnecessary trouble.
