Would people prefer low poly or some sort of non-low poly design in car games?

Any age that plays Roblox is the target. Racing game like the NFS (Need For Speed) game is what I am just solo developing as a time waster. Just wondering what people prefer and maybe why?

I know performance is a huge thing to think of but I am going to be optimising buildings massively anyway since you wont go through like 90% of them just near or next to them.

Low poly or non-low poly
  • Low Poly (why?),
  • non-low poly (why?)

I would prefer it to not be in low poly. There are many racing games on Roblox where the cars are low poly, and they don’t look great. From a development perspective, it is definitely easier to make a game in low poly, than to make it with a higher number of polygons.

But, it really depends on what type of game you are making. For a game like NFS, it would be much better in high poly. But there are other games that have utilized low poly visuals fairly well outside of Roblox, Polytrack being one example.

In my opinion it should not be low poly.
Why? yes, low poly can look good, but for a racing game where there is going to be buildings and terrain players expect to be high poly, so your average player would play a game with high poly which makes it stand out a bit.
but this does not mean you should stray away from low poly with this game? what do you have in mind for this game? If you believe you can and want to make a good racing game that utilizes low poly then you should do it and vice versa.
That is all, remember this is just my own opinion
