You can write your topic however you want, but you need to answer these questions:
What do you want to achieve? Keep it simple and clear!
I want to make a skill builder/attack maker in my game and allow the players to make their own animations using CFrames.
What is the issue? Include screenshots / videos if possible!
I have no idea if it’s possible
What solutions have you tried so far? Did you look for solutions on the Creator Hub?
I did search the forums and found nothing on the topic, I want to at least know if it’s theoretically possible before getting to deep into it.
In my head, this is definitely possible. Animation software is basically those grid-based building games you see around Roblox, but with another dimension and with a lot of extra features. Since you want to create an animation feature, you won’t even have to implement a some of the things that those games need (eg. snapping to certain tiles) and just stick to rotations.
I think I would start by taking a look at arc handles and figuring out a way to store how much players rotate a body part in keyframes (perhaps as OOP class objects). After that is figuring out how to move parts without using animations (ie. Roblox animation objects), since animations need an animation asset that you probably won’t be able to create via scripts.
One last thing I should mention is that I say it’s possible to create animations because I think it’d be easy to create the absolute bare minimum needed to play really brief animations. If you want to implement inverse kinematics, give players the ability to adjust the speed of their animations, or anything else like that, you’ll need to start looking into more complicated topics that I’m less sure Luau is capable of. In other words, anything beyond the basic rotating of limbs and body parts, I’d start reconsidering making this system, depending on your determination.
I’m also looking to make something similar - in-game animation actually. I don’t want to have to pause the studio, mess with the code, and see if it works - it’s too slow. That’s why I’m going to make a dedicated module for combat animation and cinematics, but it will take time and I’m not in a rush. What I recommend is downloading the plugin associated with this game and trying to reverse engineer the code to understand how the export works. Once that’s done, the rest is easier.
