Would you click on that?

Created an icon for my space-themed tycoon game in 5-8 minutes. better than ai

upd: thanks for your feedbacks, this improved icon will be much better than the old one

No but that is because I am not the target audience.

I would personally spend some more time researching icons since those are what people will see first.

make sure to consider what audience you are targetting and knowing what works and doesn’t (for that audience).

Hope that feedback helps!

I would personally click on it, and see if its something I could enjoy. Nice work on the icon by the way.

Everything in the icon is blending into eachother except for the out-of-place arrow which is the only editing done on the entire image by the looks of it.

  • The pickaxe doesn’t stand out from the background, infact its blending into it. The arms have the same problem.

  • The crystal in the middle, despite using colors, isn’t “popping out” (Primarily due to the use of glass on it)

  • The sun flare is taking up too much of the screen and drawing attention away from where you want it

  • I’m personally not a fan of the lack of any title/subtext at all.

I’m just rushing a quick example mockup here:

It has some good points like the red arrow that can catch clicks and a good lighting but i don’t really see the image and it dosen’t shows anything you might want to consider adding some outlines to make everything more seenable and maybe some text

Its ok but theres some problems: aside from the arms and the pickaxe, its extremely hard to make out whats happening in the scene.

Id tone down the lighting effects, the sun doesn’t need to be so strong since the atmosphere isnt the target. Also theres no need for shadows like there is, id remove them.

I see the crystal should be where your eyes are looking, but it kind of blends into the background. Id change the glass part of it to just be neon. Id also give the crystals a green glow. Also, the green-black-green outline does not especially help it pop. Id experiment with this. Maybe try making it just white.

For the arms, Id change them to be solid skin color, but that might just be preference

I didn’t even notice the rock had a transparent part until it was highlighted.
I suggest increasing the contrast of the rock somehow, and center it better too.

i know the topic is a little old but a thought I had was maybe just for the thumbnail you set the material to ice or something non-reflecting like how the glass did so that it would be clearer where it is (or maybe just make it less transparent). i dont hate the outline you came up with, but I think it looks a little weird with the reflecting inside of the outline.

After this I would also make the arms yellow or something, and make the pickaxe more in frame.

I’m gonna be completely blunt here, I would click on it because it looks bad. I would be interested in seeing what the game looks like if this was the icon.
A couple things it definitely needs to be brighter (unless it’s a horror game about mining)
Try replacing the dark sky with a solid bright purple then make the opaque parts of the crystal more visible (or just make it solid neon green just for the icon)
then outline the arms with the pickaxe in a bright yellow, and outline the crystal with another bright color.
It sounds horrendous but you gotta realize that your target audience are kids. They click on almost anything with really bright colors and emotional imagery.
And remove the glare from the sun too, it’s a lot brighter than the crystal, which is supposed to be the center of attention.

I would not really click on it, add the name of the game/the game logo so people know what it is, and maybe some anime action effects so it looks interesting. It looks good though, nice job on it!

I want for my target audience t be 12-15 y.o. players. Not too young to play 5 mins and switch to another dopamine dose, not too old to not even look at the game. Players that may form a fan base and gain some interest in game.

An improvement would be to make the crystal completly neon so it’s more seenable then you can give it an outline and call it a day
