As a Roblox developer, it is currently too hard to handle Roblox subscription payments as a business expense in the EU. Two problems:
- No yearly billing option for Premium, only monthly. That means 12 small charges per year to track and book instead of 1.
- No proper receipts/invoices. Roblox doesn’t provide tax-compliant documents showing VAT rate, VAT amount, seller VAT ID (e.g. EU OSS number), and buyer details. EU tax law effectively requires these for deducting expenses.
If this issue is addressed, it would improve my development experience because I could book Premium as a clean, deductible business expense with one document per year instead of dealing with 12 undocumented charges my accountant can’t properly process.
Use cases:
- Developers running registered businesses need VAT-compliant invoices for every expense (legally required for deductions in Germany and most of the EU).
- Yearly billing means less admin, fewer bank statement lines, easier bookkeeping.
- Other platforms already do this. Example: OpenAI issues proper invoices/receipts with an EU OSS VAT ID, VAT breakdown (19% Germany), billing address, and invoice/receipt numbers, for the same kind of consumer-tier subscription ($20/mo ChatGPT Plus).
- OpenAI even bills EU customers through an Irish subsidiary (OpenAI Ireland Limited) with an IE VAT ID, enabling reverse charge (0% VAT) for business customers with a valid VAT ID. Roblox could offer something similar for EU business accounts.
