[Action Needed] Upcoming Changes to Asset Privacy for Audio

That lawsuit was barely detrimental to developers, though. By doing that, they gave apple the bird (and rightfully so). I’d say that was actually a good move on their part.

Yeah, fair enough point there. It was more of a cosmetic thing that didn’t really affect much, specially compared to when they changed Builder’s Club into Premium. The premium change and the experiences thing weren’t as cataclysmic as the audio update, of course, but they were just minor nitpicks to most people anyways.

only a week away until the end of roblox audio

oof, roblox pulled the “never heard of it” trick on you
unfortunately it seems like they still plan to push the update out.

currently i have this feeling of frustration and acceptance, if you know what i mean.
it’s like “guess they will push out the update even though nobody wants it.”

That makes no sense at all!

I wasn’t planning to reply to this topic, but do to the mass number of comments, I might as well.

I’m upset, not mainly because of the audio changes, but rather the manner in which it was presented and the timing.

The manner in which this was presented is what I am a bit upset with. I feel like the removal of user audio should be said in a straightforward manner without trying to hide the main reason behind the removal: copyright and moderation. It would still be difficult with the removal of audio, but please, every developer knows the hardships of this, at least apologize for the necessary change.

I completely understand and support you as a company for doing this, it’s hard, but it’s business. Copyright can be a pain, but also a protection. And you guys are trying your best to clean up the platform from that to prevent lawsuits with label companies. I understand completely. The same goes for moderation as this will most likely if not completely mark the end of bypassed inappropriate audios.
As I said, necessary changes for the longevity and betterment of the platform.

But I regress to the main reason I am upset: the presentation.
Rather than trying to cover it up with positives such as audio uploads being free, apologize for the inconvenience. Lots of developers will now have to scour their games for audio ids and spend hours downloading them some way or another. And with the two (now one) week time frame game devs now have more work heaped on their plate.

Maybe the two week time frame was due to some copyright renewal or some other sudden decision beyond your control, but if it wasn’t, and you didn’t decide to tell us till now, well… I wouldn’t be able to describe my feelings here.

Be honest, especially with your developers about decisions and changes being made on the platform, Roblox. This post was written in a way that seemed to me as deceiving, though that might just be my perception, so I shall explain. Instead of outlining the main point of audio removal at the beginning or centering around that throughout the post, it mainly centers on what sounds like new features using language like “more control” and “privacy”. I feel as this language used throughout the post is meant to make it seem like an easy and rather positive change for the all you developers who can’t wait for March 22nd. But alas many Roblox developers across social media and forum platforms agree on the difficulties of this change. I am upset at the language used in this post that seemed rather misleading and patronizing, almost seeming to trick the developers to think that this change is all sunshine and rainbows.

It’s one thing to be optimistic in the announcements and happily introduce new features with the loss of certain ones, but be truthful to the developers. I don’t know who was in charge of writing this, it may not have even been this actual employee, but whoever comes up with the announcements, please make them straightforward for everybody instead of skirting around the issues.

And finally I reiterate that I agree with the changes if made in the interest of preserving copyright and being done for improvement to the platform.

Wishing a good day for developers and the employees of Roblox,
toyotavan

I agree with this entirely. As much as I resent the update, I was more-so put off by the squeaky-clean lack of acknowledgement by the staff about the reasoning behind the update. If it’s for a legal reason, I get that, but honestly with all the covering-up with positives, I feel cheated, because I feel like I got into a bad trade. I just wish we could have more honesty and transparency from the people behind the update.

This update is overall a terrible move by ROBLOX. I understand that they want to ensure privacy for Creators, but privating all new audio and exisiting audio over 6 seconds long? Seriously? Why not just add the option to make it Public or Private. A ton of games will be ruined because of this. Does ROBLOX even care about it’s Developers? Looks like to me that they don’t.

Did anybody read this?, or are we just in complain about the update mode? Can anyone else reproduce a script breaking error regarding a missing or copyright takedown soundID?

I think Roblox may have made an update to alleviate some of the problems that would be caused by this upcoming change.

Personally, this update is terrible. Roblox could easily pay for the lawsuit, instead about to break an unspeakable amount of games?! To me, The solution would be to make audios ONLY FROM NOW ON Private, then have a private/public switch. This way, we keep our original sounds, and have a choice to keep our audio to ourselves! I like the free audio part, but if roblox goes on with this without fixing Anything, It could be ROBLOX’s worst move.

7 days left for the marketplace audio to end, this sucks

Agreed. Waiting for one of those sick TV show turns like: “You know what were gonna cancel the update and just pay for the lawsuit!”. lol.

Yes, Ro-Pro is perfectly safe. Great extension; lets you see when a user was last online, you can see how long you played games, etc.

“Yea!!! Some nice crab rave mix while running from demons! I love it!”

I saw this post when it was originally published, and I have finally replied with my own thoughts and opinion.

I agree with the majority of the people here, the update sucks for everyone. For most, the upload limits will delay hundreds if not thousands of games by months, years and break millions of experiences I mean games. Play your favorite, inactive games while you can, as they may NEVER come back working properly unless the developer(s) return or roblox automatically makes audios public once they figure out something.
I’m also happy to see some developers provide compensation for in-game radio passes (bloxburg in specific so far) Again, that still doesn’t change that this update is terrible for everyone.

  • Developers need a way to sort through roblox uploaded audio by genre and possibly some other filters as sorting through it right now is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
(I use RbxMusic Made by @sleitnick, however it is costly but does work well).
Also, why was audio “sorting” removed? I noticed it a while ago that I wasn’t able to search through recently updated or anything, making me resort to adding it into the url.
I guess the only way this has affected me is currently halting one of my personal projects which has lots of songs/sounds from the toolbox that are for meme/dance emotes.
  • Sound effects being kept is good, but I also think that we need more, however I hope that the community will upload lots and I mean LOTS of different sound effects for users to use. As I find it hard to find certain sound effects (sword swings, wood footsteps, etc etc) as most don’t follow the correct usecase or are bypassed audios disguised as sound effects.

Anyways That’s my opinions and thoughts on the update.

This is already bad enough, but the fact that even if the audio I upload gets rejected, (despite it not being copyrighted) there’s no refund on the upload limit? Can’t wait to wait an entire month just to try an upload new audio.

Thats true. It would be so frustrating having audio you uploaded denied, when you have such a low limit of audio to upload.

Pressuring and blaming the only staff member who’s been answering questions on this thread is pathetic. Understand that staff members are probably as stressed as we are, the engineering team would not have rushed this update if they were given more time.

It’s mainly because of the way they executed the update. While I completely understand the whole thing about the lawsuit, what I don’t understand is why they executed the way they did with features nobody asked for like “Hey, audios are free now! But now you only get a specific limit of how many you can upload a month!” and how they’re essentially crippling a majority of older games and boomboxes while doing so.
All I can really hope now is that they somehow work with the update in such a way where the audio update isn’t as incredibly bad as the initial first impressions of it make it seem.

I don’t think snarky remarks will help to an employee that is genuinely trying to help us
you don’t understand this is a company with a HUGE employee count and due to that there will be a strict hierarchy
the person you are complaining to in particular probably can’t even make executive decisions when it comes to uploading stuff since that is basically the entire foundation of roblox and they wouldn’t really give away that power like flowers on valentines day
so how about take your own advice and reflect back on your reply before you just spread unnecessary anger out on genuine people
