Advertising social media in game

Yes, This isn’t exactly game design support, closest I could find

Quick question for my next game, I was wondering if it would break ToS to have a card at the bottom saying “Follow us on twitter @(handle)” and “Join our disord (then a link)”

Some games do this, others don’t, would love some help.

This is allowed, and perfectly acceptable, even with a link.

This is nowhere near allowed. No discord links or encouragement to go to discord allowed at all.

So I can promo the twitter but not discord, right?

Correct. The only way to promote discord is by passively putting it in the “Social Links” box in your game or group’s description.

Why is Discord so frowned upon?

No idea, considering lots of other platforms that can be promoted have a private messaging system too.

It is frowned upon because you need to be 13+ to use it and it involves more private messaging than Twitter I believe, so having it in a game where younger players will see and try to join could lead to bad circumstances.

@Ben_Corporation - maybe. Twitter also has a minimum age of 13 though so it feels like an odd decision for Roblox to differentiate between social media platforms as it leaves them open to needless accusations of bias.

Not really, as I said Discord is entirely private messages/group chats, whereas twitter is generally used for public announcements. There is also the fact that for the most part people using Twitter use their real names/Roblox names whereas Discord users are generally hidden behind usernames which can easily be changed. More dangerous.

Got it, thank you @Ben_Corporation

Because with Twitter, Youtube, Twitch, Facebook, etc. you can be signed out to view the content. With Discord you have to have an account to view the content, which may be low-key encouraging <13 users to (illegally) create an account.

I suspect Roblox also believes it’s not as safe as other platforms.
