believe me i’d be fine with even 200 hours of playtime because it’s still eventually reachable without the need to give up any information to roblox
and remember, you only need to do this ONCE
Honestly, maybe this in combination would be great.
Like once you have tons of playtime hours, you’re more trusted to speak with other age groups.
yea but i’m still not giving up my face or id to chat
I mean I think everyone knows at this point that people will just bypass it by showing a picture or AI or something
add to this, only allow a max of 2-3 accounts per email/phone number
gives players the chance to reuse the email/phone number incase of account loss
Alright I initially skipped over this part but this update is genuinely so much worse than I thought…
WHAT DO YOU MEAN we can’t have preset messages? No more “I need healing” or “Hold this angle” I guess? Genuinely who came up with this stuff lmao
This also applies towards people who have chat already?? Why??
This is going to kill games like guts and blackpowder.
Rest in peace the meme that was DE KOMMER HÆLP OS!
so why don’t you at least hire more moderators IN ADDITION TO this godawful update?
or 1 account per email/phone number and we can forget about account loss
Nothing. There is no competitor to Roblox.
The only way around is to use a different game engine and handle all the conviniences Roblox had by yourself.
Roblox can be great, if it wasn’t for the fact they’re cooking their platform to Congratulations

Did you guys miss this section of the announcement lmao, this is nonsensical
Dandy’s World has it worse IMO, they have literal art attached to all of their comms
They really are throwing manure at the wall and seeing what sticks. This solves nothing lol
I asked them about the preset messages and they said nothing about clarifications.
Originally I was in favor of age verification for chatting. Because I felt it was an effective way of protecting young users from predatory behavior.
However, with this specific implementation with only letting age groups able to chat with other certain age groups, I no longer feel this way.
The main problem is that predators will actually be able to use this to find young targets more easily. Because if they get a hold of an account that is verified at a young age, they now know that anyone that is communicating in a server they are in, must also be that age. And I don’t think anyone believes that the age verification is fool proof, so it will be possible that predators can get a hold of accounts that are verified as 10 years old or whatever.
I’m not really sure what these narrow age groups really achieve. I can understand having it as like under 13s are one group, and over 13s are another. But anything more than that is actually working against child safety.
As others have pointed out, it also means that older users are no longer present to report predatory behavior as it is happening, while I wouldn’t rely on older users to protect younger ones, I do believe that a large amount absolutely would and have protected younger users in the past. This implementation Roblox is planning, takes away this completely.
Because of these narrow groups it also basically destroys roleplay games/communities since users can only communicate with users the same age, which is unlikely to be abundant in smaller games, and its hard to grow a roleplay game if your users aren’t have a good time due to not being able to socialize properly.
If I were implementing this I would:
- not allow under 9s to chat regardless
- have 13+ as its own group (so 17yr old can talk to 13yr old, etc)
- have under 15s as its own group, this means a 15 yr old can talk to a 10 yr old, this lets there be some older users to help with moderation
- have playtime be a factor in chatting, so even if you verify you must reach a certain number of hours (not afk) before having access, this idea is from another user, maybe around 20 hours
This way you don’t decimate the social aspect chat provides to a lot of games, you don’t reduce the benefit of having older users look out for younger users, you don’t help predators find young users, and you still get the benefit of requiring age verification to chat (tho how reliable and easy it is to bypass remains to be seen).
We need more posts like this. People are not ‘discriminating’ on these new policies because they involve AI, but because they are fundamentally broken. Everyone is treated as though they are unable to make their own contributions towards this website’s safety. Every incident is treated as if it is an “accident” caused by children “bumping into” groups of older players. This website has systemic problems with how it handles safety.
If Roblox does choose to continue with required face/ID verification, they need to know that they will lose a large quantity of players - older players by choice, younger players because their parents won’t trust the site. Optional gov’t ID verification people were not so much against because it just means that people are willing to put a face to what they do online. Required face/ID verification is not so much the same. People are suggesting alternatives all over this thread, although they are kind of spread out.
I’ll highlight some stuff I saw that stood out earlier this thread in a reply to this post.
Some of it is that Roblox’s management needs to go on a long vacation, then remember what it’s like to work with the community like friends, what it’s like to be based on virtues rather than the next already-fat paystub, and what it’s like to spend money towards making a platform that is of value to its audience rather than its investors. Management that values only earnings becomes absolute husks of people.
@RbxRocketMan I hope you or whoever else needs to gets to see some of these posts with detailed change suggestions to your systems (including those of well-known advocates have sent messages to you off-site, like on Twitter).
This chat update is punishing adults for daring to want to play roblox and join in with everyone.
This means that anyone over 20 year old is being assumed as a bad actor.
This is going to destroy many communities as adults often take mangement roles and moderation roles in games, responsible adults will no longer be able to take part in and enjoy the roblox community just because they are an adult.
Assuming adults are bad actors just because they talk to children is wild.
IN ADDITION, please please PLEASE give very high playtime accounts (100+ hours) the ability to send and receive chats from everyone without the need to submit a face/id
some communities are simply too small to have any sort of division in them
and not enough people are realistically getting past 100+ hours multiple times and persisting for long enough to overwhelm the moderators
only issue is very dedicated people could sell accounts with high playtime
Yeah I’d agree, seems weird if you have someone who has been playing for like 4 years and tons of hours without any reports to then limit them.
Ofc there is the possibility someone is good and then becomes bad but if we work off that logic then we just should remove chat for everyone forever.
Deepwoken used to have a very bad black market problem for buying enchanted items with real money due to their rarity, does this mean games shouldn’t have rare items?
And besides i’m sure you could also get moderators to prioritize looking at chats from users that switched locations right after getting the ability to chat with everyone
