How about having a setting that is something like “Ask for clipboard permission” which can be turned off to automate things and on to activate as a safety measure, or possibly moderate the text (which I think might be quite frustrating). But still we genueinly need a feature for the better of devs in Roblox.
bump adding it to normal games could be good as well. would just need it to ask for permission
Another bump, I still need this super badly ![]()
Bumped. I love making plugins but this is missing. Roblox where are you?
We need this!! I made a plugin that simply prints my selection to the Output because I was tired of plugins that created TextBoxes just for copying paths ![]()
I wanted it to copy directly to the clipboard, but Roblox does not allow that. ![]()

I didn’t forget about this! Bumping this!
What scenario would a game need to copy text to your clipboard? I understand plugins, but for a Roblox game, I can’t think of any reason any game would need this. I can’t even think of a game that does this outside of Roblox.
The only example I can see kind of making sense is for a level editor sharing system, level data could be copy pasted to share levels, but I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone, I’ve only ever seen a system like this used in things like Scratch. If you were doing this, it’d probably be better to save level data to a datastore and have a level viewing system, like a front page of levels. Sorry for getting off-track but you get the point lol.
bump. this is really needed and would be a great addition.
its been 5 years when is this getting added
Hello, currently missing this functionality for an internal plugin I’m creating. We need the ability to upload assets and immediately copy the list of IDs that was given, along with copying compressed vfx data between places. Would really appreciate an update here.
Bump, why isn’t this added yet???
You could create a Python script that listens on a local port. Then, you could send the data you want to copy to the local port, and the Python script will copy it to your system clipboard. That isn’t ideal but if you need it for you own use it does the job.
My developers are not going to know how to run Python scripts and it’s an unnecessary layer of complexity when Roblox could just let us copy things
Crosswoods, so I agree that this should definitely be only given to plugins.
Took me a minute since I associate “developer” with at least some shred of technological knowledge; you could always compile the Python script to an executable with a tool like pyinstaller or Nuitka.
Great, now they have to run an exe every time they start studio. Not much better, requires my contributors to trust me with an EXECUTABLE ON THEIR COMPUTER (which I wouldn’t do for anyone), and it’s not going to work with Mac (and probably not Vinegar on Linux) unless I compile for that too.
I don’t appreciate your comment regarding “technical knowledge” either; it is not uncommon for Roblox developers to not have prior experience with other tooling, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Workarounds for oneself are fine but I’m not going to settle for that when this is something Studio should offer natively
Completely agree, was just pointing out that it doesn’t have to be a .py
I mean complexity is a big word for that. I just wanted to tell you because I once was specialized in developing helper plugins for bigger game studios, and it’s a workaround I used.
And I’m totally for this feature, don’t take me wrong.
Indeed.
I need this feature, bumping this post.
Bump this is a really simple feature plugins should be able to do. It can require a permission in the plugin menu, that is fine just please give us this!
