[Alpha] Next Gen Studio Update: Custom Tabs

Fair enough! The JSON can get tedious pretty quickly and we knew it wouldn’t be for everyone.

BUT another fun thing is there’s nothing stopping folks from sharing their custom tabs here. We will probably post a couple more example ones as well.

There’s a couple interesting ideas we have around this. Nothing set in stone yet but definitely a possibility.

Nah, Roblox has been cooking for the past two days. Occlusion Culling, VR Emulator, and now custom tabs!?

Roblox you’re the :cook: :fire:

the new studio ui looks awesome! i’m very excited for the future of studio, no matter how long it takes to build

and seriously, thank you for giving us lots of information about this in the past year… this is a major change to studio and people’s workflows, and hopefully its gonna be for the better! i’m going to quit the yapping now, ive said this many times before (i just like appreciating the good things, ok??)

interesting update, would it be possible however, to allow us to move the tabs to the left side of the screen? maybe also allowing us to keep less space between icons? feels like a lot of icons are far from each other for no particular reason, allowing us to only display a few icons compared to the older ui

this would be pretty useful, but it also would be kind of useless… its not like tabs are constantly appearing and disappointing (as its you who customises them!), so its not like the windows 11 centered taskbar thing that ends up moving all the time so you miss the darn start button!!

Nice one. I went thru these earlier and somehow happened to not notice it until now

i think it just looks better and more ogranized on the left side, something about it being in the middle just looks unpleasing. i feel like that would improve the ui a bit, as well as removing so much space between icons. ofc not everyone might like that, but would be a nice customization option, since the new ui is all about making stuff easier for devs!

i do agree with that. if it were centered fully in the screen i think it would be fine, but its knocked left slightly due to the large collaborate button and the separation lines on the right (which gives it some realllly wierd spacing with the rest of the ui). maybe merge the collaborate and share buttons into one?

overall i think that the biggest improvement would be to allow for more slight customization of parts of the ui (colours, padding, alignment, etc)

Really liking this so far

But button texts look odd sometimes

If I had the time, I’d whip up a quick and dirty editor until there’s an official one. I’m sure there’s others that would though.

Once this gets a full release, I will be using this feature. Every since I tried the beta for next gen studio, I’ve wanted to see this implemented! This will be very useful for me and other developers.

I’m glad this is on the roadmap for this feature. For a lot of developers, this feature would go completely unused without a visual editor. Also just from a UX perspective, this will make it easier.

Great update, but I’m gonna wait until it’s out of Alpha and has it’s own interface. Thanks though!

this is a great step. What i want more than anything is for my scripts to save their undocked behavior! I use 3 monitors to code with scripts spread between 4-5 different tabs, this is great, i love this functionality. But currently i have to set it up every single time i open studio, because even if it saves the scripts i have open (which is also glitchy and unreliable on its own), it will load them all docked in one tab! This is a real pain in the ass and i’d love to see it changed!

p.s. please just be shameless and copy blender at every step, it’s a perfected software.

I love this! No more searching through all the tabs to find stuff I use a ton but forget where they are.

When will a compact mode be coming for the tabs UI though that takes up the same vertical space as the old UI? I would love to use the new UI but this is whats holding me back :frowning:
