Answers to your recent questions regarding our DMCA policy

Yes and they have been for as long as Roblox has existed. You should only use content/IP that you have a license for (that means: explicit permission from the copyright owner).

5 weeks now. Context is the same. Looking for response.

Itā€™s insane that ā€œDeveloper Relations is here for us developersā€ when they donā€™t even give us an update on things that threaten our lifestyles and businesses.

Hopefully DevRel at least tell people whatā€™s going on.

You shouldnā€™t need to be told that using IP which is not yours is a bad idea and you could be punished.

Whoa whoa whoa. Itā€™s downright rude to put him into a corner like that. Many developers simply have copyrighted content on here they uploaded when they were young/werenā€™t aware of copyright infringement. Not everyone was directly living off these assets, but action could still be taken against their account for them. You can still be living off an honest game and have your account deleted because you uploaded copyrighted material at some point.

If you read the statements about the policy, this is exactly what they are not trying to accomplish. In such a situation the infringement isnā€™t with malicious intent. Theyā€™ll work with you when you get the strike to make sure it doesnā€™t happen again.

Thatā€™s good. It still doesnā€™t change the fact that itā€™s rude to assume someoneā€™s living off others copyrighted material.

You never know if someone is using copyrighted material or not (if they have the license or if they are the creators of such materials) However, In both all the developers AND Robloxā€™s best interest that there close to no games on roblox that have copyrighted material as that gives a negative image on the entire platform and its developers.

They clearly state that should you get falsely moderated, you may appeal to developer relations and they will help you out and make sure you do not get moderated again as Thomas stated.

Iā€™m not talking about that. Iā€™m talking about calling people out for having uploaded copyrighted material.

My bad, I thought you were referring to Roblox.

I know a lot of friends and friends of friends whoā€™re now successful developers, but theyā€™ve uploaded copyrighted material years ago. We were younger, we didnā€™t know better and roblox certainly did not restrict us from uploading themā€¦

That being said, if weā€™re making an honest attempt to clean up our past mistakes then we should never be accused of doing something wrong. Roblox has offered us a line which we can use to remove such assets, and in any case we get a strike we have a way to appeal.

In the end, other userā€™s moderation history or current assets used in games are no oneā€™s concern but the developer of said game, and Roblox staff. So just worry about yourself

(Edit: When I say that ^ I am talking to everyone not directly to Intended_Pun )

The fact that you can only get strikes by purpose of explicit DMCA takedown requests is reassuring. Before knowing this bit, it seemed absurd.

Thanks for bringing some light to this subject.

Asked via e-mail for some of my assets to be deleted on March 22.
ā€¦
Waited for several weeks. Assets not deleted.
ā€¦
Sent another e-mail, this time replying to the automated response afterwards, on April 16.
ā€¦
Still nothing for several weeks. Assets not deleted. Not even a human reply about why.
ā€¦
Posted this post to bug about the post that says I can get assets I posted deleted for copyright reasons.

My goodness! Whatā€™s going on?

I asked for some assets to be deleted since the very moment this e-mail address was introduced. I waited several weeks only to get told there was an issue and I had to resend the e-mail. Weeks goes by and I finally get another e-mail.

I wanted some assets deleted, not to fill a DMCA take down.
Some hours go before I get this e-mailā€¦

Iā€™ve been waiting for more than a month to get few assets removed, and itā€™s still no progress. We all get stressed over possibly getting ourselves terminated from the platform but you donā€™t even prioritize the removal requests? Itā€™s very disappointing

Iā€™m only saying the progress is slow and Roblox needs to put more effort into making it faster and better

I think that happened to me before. I donā€™t like how I email support and get something of a reply I did not even ask about. This happened a long time ago but it still does happen from time to time and something should be done about this.

Can I get a response please?? Itā€™s been 6 weeks since I sent the email go to get content removed. Still not removed. Itā€™s been over 3 weeks that Iā€™ve been seeking a response here with regards to this post. Nearly a month. Still no reponse. Iā€™m sure if I posted on something like Unity forums or the likes of Iā€™d have a response within days. How is this acceptable? Iā€™m frustrated. Iā€™ve put into this platform for over a decade and I canā€™t even find out what is happening with the platform and if Iā€™m going to end up with a strike or not despite doing everything in my power to remove it??

You shouldnā€™t get a strike unless youā€™re a repeat offender, and even if you do, you can counter the strike by pointing out that you made a removal request.

I have a feeling that re-reading the posts they put out about the new strike system might help. Iā€™m not sure where this level of agitation comes from; itā€™s pretty clear that a company needs to send a DMCA before you can even get a strike, and that even if you get a strike, they will work with you to remove the content and to ensure it doesnā€™t happen again (you also cannot get a strike within 45 days of another one).

If you havenā€™t gotten a DMCA against the content you sent off to roblox by now, itā€™s unlikely that you will before they have the chance to remove it from the website, whenever that may be.

Is it considered a copyright infringement if someone copies an asset from my game without permission? And how can I report pirated stuff that an exploiter copped off my game?

Search for ā€œDigital Millennium Copyright Actā€ in the Terms of Service.

Glad that sounds a lot more re-assuring.
