I added a welcome badge to my game ONLY because I have friends that are badge collectors. Also, if the player doesn’t like the game, they’re a little more satisfied knowing that they earned a badge.
I can definitely say this is not true. To me, it is like branding a player. If I play a game that I don’t want to be associated with, and I get a welcome badge, it paints a target on me. Also, I would hate to earn a badge for doing nothing. It makes me feel like a kid getting a participation award, and as though I couldn’t naturally earn it. I don’t support participation awards, they make people feel like they can accomplish anything without actually working for it.
Now, if you are using welcome badges to track new players vs returning players, that’s fine. It gives you statistical data that you can use to improve your game. But if you are using it to make the player feel special or something, you are using it for the wrong reason.

Exactly. How can players desire something that is free? You see players begging for robux all the time, why do you think that is? Why do players not want to look like a bacon? There is no value in common items. Only rare is desirable. Welcome badges hold no value to the player, and they are only useful for statistical data for the developer.

I don’t see why it would be belittling, it’s just an extra robox badge. I actually got a higher like to dislike ratio after adding a welcome badge; so yes it did positively effect my game.
What game do you hate the most? I personally despise Adopt Me. If one of my friends played a joke on me by force placing me into adopt me with admin commands, and adopt me had a welcome badge, I would be so embarrassed
I don’t think there’s a reason to be embarrassed to have joined a game… it’s not like you’re a full on addict to it.
If you are in certain communities, like I am, the communities will make fun of you. Especially older players. Those are what most people would call pros. They have expensive limiteds, they play games like doomspire brickbattle, and they hate certain newer games. They would make fun of you if they found out.
My community can be very toxic, it is full of elitests. But they do have certain points, all these pets, roleplayers, ODers, asthetics, ext… Are undesirable
