Avatar Auto Setup [Alpha]

Hey @Disgustedorito,
Generally the initial outcome using auto-setup is better than Blender/Maya with default settings. Those applications do offer the ability to edit the result, which we don’t do yet. We are looking into potentially adding new functionality to auto-setup, so please let us know your suggestions in the feedback form.

Hey @Raki3dd,
This alpha release of auto-setup has some restrictions that will be removed in future updates. For example, the input models need to be provided in an A-pose with no built-in accessories. Your avatar model will likely not work as is with auto-setup alpha since it is in a T-pose and has clothing and beard accessories as part of the model. If you could re-pose and remove the accessories leaving the avatar body model wearing only the modesty layer than it will probably work just fine.

Nope, you will still retain the ability to setup avatars manually with the full release

Hey @Reverse_Polarity,
The current restriction in this alpha version to update everything will be removed in future releases to allow auto-setup to reuse user inputs and only compute what is missing to complete the avatar setup.

Hey @PeZsmistic,
The plan for future releases is to allow auto-setup to reuse user inputs and compute only what is missing

looks useful but are there plans to improve this rig/introduce a new avatar type to allow finger, palm, shoulder movement and a more segmented spine? its nice to have this technology but it doesnt result in a very useful rig, and it’d be nice to have a universal improved humanoid rig for roblox

e: sorry for the excessive edits, i missed some parts.

Would this model ( with a head ) in gray be ok or would I need to add in something else?

You would need to add modesty layers to be policy compliant, but aside from that it would be good

As 0Tenth said, generally this would be fine if you added a modesty layer (and the head followed the guidelines listed above with eyes, mouth, etc).

One note we cover in the documentation, but I’d love to raise here is making sure when you look at your model from the front view that there’s no overlapping of body parts.

The posture of your character is great with the arms and legs separated enough to skin well. Looking forward to the results!

Would it need to have a head as I might want to make a version of this that is headless?

Yes, for auto-setup Alpha to work, you need to follow the guidelines (full humanoid with head).

Awesome character! One bit of advice for the alpha; its better to have the arms in an “A-pose”. There is work to allow T and other poses, but for now the best results are A-Pose. Out of curiosity, does the head have full eyes and a mouth (including teeth and tongue)?

I think I found an minor issue with the warning popup that says you can’t publish items to the marketplace; there’s a X button but nothing happens when you click it, making the popup unclosable

Here are my results! It works really really well for being in alpha, and I couldn’t spot any easily noticeable body movement and caging issues with the rig I used.
The auto facial animation works really well, I couldn’t see any issues except for the areas around the eyes catching a bit. I can see this being a major time saver for artists, allowing them to focus more on the artistic part rather than the technical part of the avatar creation process.

(also, not very related but the skybox used inside the avatar setup preview looks interesting)

When I tried to do it I realized I couldn’t
I could easily change it to pose A but the bad thing is that I modeled the character as if the clothes were part of the body so I have to do it again to test it

I tried to do it with pose T but there was no way to do it, then I put it in pose A but I had the problem that I made the clothes as if they were the body of the character so I have to remake the character from scratch.

The head does not have eyes. I drew them myself with the blender paint tool.
It doesn’t have a mouth, it’s not a pretty simple model either.

I will do it again from scratch to see what the final result looks like

Some tips for eyes and mouths: You can make a small eye socket hole in the head through sculpting or other means, and put a half-sphere inside. It doesn’t need to be capped AFAIK. For the mouth, carve out a bag (basically a hole in the head) through sculpting and add a mesh for the tongue and teeth inside. You can pull the lips together after you’re done, and might want to do some retopology to fix up some of it after sculpting.

Thanks for the advice, I’ll try it to see how it turns out.
I did something similar a while ago for a bat character although here I forgot to put the lips together but I think something similar will turn out

Hello, today I received a message that I was accepted to the alpha test channel, but I could not find the Avatar auto setup option in Roblox Studio. I’ve tried a few one-piece meshes and I’ve tried the sample meshes that Roblox has installed. After launching Roblox Studio, it told me to restart for this alpha test,I restarted it, but where is this option? Thank you for supporting.
