Clarification on code flagged for safety review

That feels entirely different.
Roblox doesn’t bother informing you about what got your account terminated, the account deletion page didn’t say anything about the content being in a script, and you only get one chance to an appeal.

After that first appeal, every future attempt to appeal again is just declined because they honor the first appeal attempt anyway.

30 days past? Then it’s copy and paste that it’s already 30 days past.

You can’t tell me they don’t act like bots or even are bots.

If no bot is used then why does every customer support member reply with the same message that has nothing to do with my issue? Literally I sent 3-4 messages with detailed information for the error and got the same message as a reply. Here is their latest reply for the Internal Server Error that happened 2 weeks ago

Thank you for contacting Roblox Customer Care.

We understand that sometimes you may run into problems building and scripting to which you just can't figure out a solution. With all of the power available through Roblox and Roblox Studio, you may even have difficulty knowing where to start. Luckily, we have several sources of information that might be able to help. Please check out the Building and Scripting Help and Tutorials help article for information on these sources.

This was a reply to a detailed message like the forum thread I made.

Maybe not all the customer support members are like this but the ones that replied to me about the issue were so eventually I gave up on thr Customer Support and reported the issue here.

You can report errors in the relevant channel under #platform-feedback - Roblox Support aren’t trained for understanding the difference between script errors and platform issues. You should always use this place first.

They use the same message because if they have the same answer, they will use a macro that will make it easier than typing out a long message that doesn’t need any additional context.

I can tell you that they aren’t bots: They aren’t bots.

“Acting like bots” is because they follow a process for each report and have to try and categorize your report into something they can handle, or alternatively, elevate it. If your email could be misinterpreted under something a CS person is given something to respond to in their guidance, they will probably send that. The more information, the better.

You can provide all the information you can to the appeals team, but after the first appeal attempt, even if it was very detailed in why you believe the termination is unfair; is your only chance to appeal.

If you try to send another email rephrasing your emphasis on why you believe the termination was unfair, as in this example with code being in a script that ended up with my account being terminated; they’ll just ignore you as there was already an previous attempt to appeal.

Even if you recite links to this exact devforum, they’ll ignore you.

Even if you show the appeals team what exactly got you terminated, they’ll ignore you.

What information then? What do I give? How do I appeal? Which email can I use for appealing as a developer?

I feel like I’m talking to a stone wall to support agents that have the hotkey to copy and paste to millions of emails in an hour. I understand the pressure that they have to keep the malicious people out, but having code that sat dormant on my script to immediately warrant a termination of my account is highly unfair.

I didn’t know Roblox is more risky to your own account if you open Roblox Studio than just join a random Roblox game and chat.

You can use appeals@roblox.com to appeal, as every other user does.

Nobody is going to “immediately terminate” your account for violating code. That is completely false and I don’t know where you got it from. If you read the post, you will be given a warning to change the code, and a time period in which to do so before moderation action is applied.

You can say that nobody is going to ‘immediately terminate’ my account.

What about me?

I was never given a warning.
My game was immediately Content Deleted for content I’ve accidently put into a script, published to a friends only game, and my account was immediately deleted.

I had no warning.

Is anyone listening to this?

I do know people who’ve been immediately terminated.

Not to upset anyone but we seem to be steering of topic by talking about Roblox moderation as a whole. I would suggest either finding a thread on #platform-feedback to continue this discussion or creating a thread if you can not find one that fits this discussion. In my opinion, repeatedly responding to this thread with this (mostly) off topic discussion is only adding fuel to the fire of the drama surrounding this situation.

Just to state my opinion, the automated moderation activity against this topic about code being reviewed, flagged, and can even result in an instant account deletion is the issue at hand however.

Edit: Code isn’t simply being flagged as they say it is, accounts are getting deleted over words put into a script with no warning, due diligence, or even an appeal process.

Hello Developers,

I updated my poll to hopefully be more clear with the options.

The options are, in summary:
-(no consent) I dont mind whether or not roblox reads my code only I can see however, I do not want them to punish me for it.
-(consent) I don’t mind whether or not roblox reads my code only I can see and if they want to moderate me for inappropriate behaviour in my scripts thats okay.

I encourage all developers to vote on this. Hopefully if roblox sees the community distaste for this new policy, they will either consider amending it or removing it entirely.

I sure hope they remove it, I still do not want people to read my code and the resources can be used for other things like moderation, performance, and development.

Hello!

Would you be able to provide some sources regarding this statement or regarding how the Roblox moderation system functions in general?

I haven’t ever looked into Roblox’s moderation system all too much, but I think it could be useful to this whole thread if everyone had some sources to base replies on.

There also don’t seem to be any official replies or clarifications in this thread either, which is unfortunate.

Also, regarding the above sentence:
From my knowledge Roblox doesn’t seem to always hold true to their warning system, rather many moderations that are supposed to be warnings are instead instant terminations, forcing you to appeal.

Even something as simple as uploading a single asset (one that doesn’t actually violate the TOS) can result in a temporary ban or termination.

Because of this, I have some doubts that Roblox will hold true to their statement of issuing a warning to change the code before moderation action.

Would you have to go delete all the scripts, or just archive the game?

I have over 200 places and I’m not sure how I’m going to go about getting rid of unknown things.

So our assets are being moderated by some shady scam/telemarketer call center-type of thing?

You are not the only one with this feeling.

Up until this point I was very enthusiastic about making my first real game on roblox. But in the last 3 days looking or even thinking of this post effectively stopped me from making any progress. Even though I’m not writing anything in my scripts that would break any rules (at least according to my knowledge) I still feel very uncertain about the future and I’m thinking more and more about departing to another engine, like godot, mentioned earlier by Borsy.
I’m trying to stay positive and hope our comments will be heard, but it’s hard, especially now, after full 3 days with no response from any roblox officials.
The aniety and fear of losing all my progress that I made in the time I was on roblox is now stronger than ever and is proven to be reasonable with examples like NickoSCP’s account termination without any prior warnings and his denied appeals.
I’m sure there are more devs that also feel the same way. Like I mentioned in my post yesterday, I think this is the first time I see devforum users so united. Let’s keep our hopes up and keep on working together, because that’s the only way we have a chance to influence roblox’s management’s decisions.

On paper, this looks like a step in the right direction. Edit (This means I disagree with it lol)

As many other developers have asked: why?

It appears that the attempt to clarify this new script moderation update has created more confusion. Can we expect further elaboration in the future? One of my biggest concerns is when is a script flagged for review?

Okay, but why waste the time of moderators who could be moderating actual rule-breakers. Nobody sees the script, so why does it matter if there’s a swear word? If a game is reported, the employees can look at the code, otherwise, there is no reason to, and it’s a huge invasion of privacy.

When people bypass the filter in-game, they get warned. Now somebody says a swear word in a script, and they are terminated. Doesn’t make a lot of sense.

EDIT: I wanted to add that it’s crazy they just told us about this. This has been going on for months (according to them), and now they decide to tell us?

I really hope they do revise what happens when code does get flagged.
Automation should never immediately terminate a Roblox’s user account.
It should either

  • Set the game to be under review and block the users ability to update games until they appeal.
  • Get an warning alert when you click to publish the game that Roblox has found something that may trigger moderation activity against your account
  • Have a dedicated email for appealing place moderations
  • Provide Roblox a tool to block a users access to upload games after receiving a warning till they appeal

No account should be terminated over content in a place that has less than 50 visits in a month.

And Roblox really needs to allow users to sign into the DevForums even with their Roblox account terminated.
